*Chapter Fourteen.*

*In Vin's room.*

“Babe, please don't tell me that you guys are going back to the village!” Job says and he sounds really surprised.

“Wait, what did you expect darling.”

“That you guys will stay here and look for jobs. There is nothing beautiful in the village.”

“Can I ask for a favour?”

“Go ahead.”

“Let's see how things go. If you manage to get something for Lynn, we stay. If nothing comes up then we will have to go back to the village for her sake. Come back in December to settle. What do you think?”

“Must you go back with her darling?”

“We had an agreement with her. We walk together and that's our motto.”

“You know I admire how much you and Lynn love each other, with this spirit I admit you two will go far.”  He says smiling and Vin sighs.

“Thank you so much darling.” She says excitedly. “I knew you would understand us.”

They then hug each other tightly. Give each other sweet orgasms and sleep.

On Monday morning, I wake up. Take a shower and that is one thing I admire in the city. You wake up and take a shower. In the village if you are not going to work, you wake up and go to the garden. Come back and sweep, cook some porridge and I swear by the time you get to think about a shower, it’s  six in the evening.

I walk lazily into the living room. I have mastered well the names and guess what, that's what happens when you are dealing with a fast learner.

Vin is seated and watching something on the TV. She does not look like she slept well but, well, she deserves orgasms and that's what she might have been given the whole night. And what does one board a bus all the way travelling for more than eight hours to her boyfriend to do? With me I was running away from trouble only to run into it headwind here in the city! George!  The tragedy of my absurd life!

“Good morning little cousin?”

“Ooh come on Lynn, little? Anyway good morning?”

“How was your sleep? Did you get sleep at all?”

‘’Yes why are you asking?’’

‘’Because you don’t look like you did, you actually look like shit.’’

‘’Ooh really?’’ She asks with a raised eye brow.

‘’Yes, you are okay?’’

‘’Yes I am, please join me. Let us take tea.’’

I start to walk towards the table but my phones thrilling sound stops me. I rush back to my bedroom but the call ends before I can pick it.

I look at the caller  identity and see it was my dad. I call him back immediately and rush back to where Vin is. I have enough credit loaded by Samson so, we will speak for longest time ever.

He picks the call on the first ring.

‘’Hello dad.’’

‘’Hello my daughter,’’

‘’How are you dad?’’

‘’I am good thank you Lynn. Did you go to the city and forgot about your father?’’  He says and I can feel a fatherly smile from his end.

‘’No dad, that’s not the case and I am sorry about that.’’ I say remorsefully.

‘’Don’t you worry about it. How is Vin?’’

‘’She is fine. How is everyone?’’

‘’Everyone is doing well my daughter, when will you be back?’’

‘’Soon dad, before schools re-open.’’ I say and Vin frowns at me.

‘’You better come home soon. Your mum isn’t very happy about you being in the city, she thinks it is not a place for young girls like you.’’ I roll my eyes then face palm myself, that’s my dad I am rolling my eyes to ,  He can’t see me yes but I couldn’t fight the urge.

‘’I will dad, I’ll be home soon.’’

‘’Alright and  I say hi to Vin?’’

I hand Vin the phone and she too speaks with my dad. She says thanks to my dad and terminates the call.

We take breakfast in silence.

‘’When did you make the breakfast?’’ I ask once I realize the silence is getting awkward.

‘’When I woke up.’’ She responds nonchalantly.

‘’When did you wake up Vin?’’

‘’At 5 am in the morning.’’

‘’Why so early?’’

‘’Because Job had to go to work.’’ she says and I face palm myself then when I check the time on my phone and realize it’s almost nine in the morning.

Just how lazy am I becoming? I am so sure waking up at nine is never my thing. I know waking up so early is hard but nine! Really?

‘’Hey, young girl, are you here?’’

‘’‘’Sorry what did you say?’’

‘’I said I want to take you to town.’’ I shake my head to make sure that I am not dreaming. Then I look at her. I then laugh dryly at the joke.

‘’Can you be serious for once Vin? I am not in for your lame jokes. She is looking at me with raised eyebrows. I am trying to feign seriousness and I know Vin is probably wondering why I am acting like this.

‘’Okay Lynn, I want to take you to town. Let us go window shop and see town.’’

‘’How well do you know the city?’’ I ask her calmly.

‘’Not so well but it is fine we go, loose track and then find our ways back home.’’ She says with a smile and I love the idea.

‘’Okay cousin, I am in. let us go.’’ I say with excitement and I feel like she is confused by how I am behaving

‘’Alright get dressed when you are done taking tea okay?’’  She says.

‘’Yes mummy.’’ I say jokingly and we both burst out in a hearty laughter .

We are done within thirty minutes, none of us does make up so it is very easy to get dressed quick.

We walk to the stage and get a matatu to town.

We are going nowhere in particular but one thing I know, I feel secure with Vin and I hope we will not loose our bearing.

We get to a street written Kenyatta Avenue. We walk around town without knowing where we are going or coming from.

We get into shops, look at different things and watch in amazement as people buy very expensive goods.

We pass by different eateries and ooh!

‘’How come there are so many people in the city?’’ I ask almost shouting but Vin doesn’t even bother responding.

I have noticed people in the city are busy, they are moving at a very great speed and each time I meet one they literally push me away hitting me so painfully.

As we keep walking, I scan the place and I am sure we are not on track.

We keep walking and we get to this very tall beautiful building, I scan around and I motion Vin to look over when I think I just saw George.

I tense against Vin but she holds me tight and says she will not let anything bad happen to me.

She doesn’t ask me more though.

We go against the direction I saw him going to and when we ask the famous ‘askari rungu’ where number fourteen is boarded, we realise we like three or more kilometres away.

‘’Madam mmepotea.’’ (You have lost track)

Sasa tutaendaje? (How do we go from here?)

Fuata huku, halafu hivi halafu upige kona halafu,…

I realise then that the idiot is trying to confuse her more, and he could be doing that because he just realised that we aren’t city dwellers.

We trace our way back and I think I am either sleep walking or I am going mad.

I see someone like Samson walking by as our matatu starts to go and my heart leaps in a frenzy of excitement. My stomach is full of butterflies and my eyes are staring into the nothingness of the direction he took.

Why do I keep seeing people? Am I becoming mad?

We get to the house and my phone beeps with a text.

George: Lynn baby, I already know where to find you.

I am shaking with both anger and fear as I show Vin the text.
