CHAPTER 20: THE DECISION

***********

Deliah's POV

This was it. My next few words were going to determine my future, more specifically if I'm going to have one with Keanu.

I stare down at the flame situated in the middle of the table providing a dim lighting. My eyes move up again to meet his.

"Not to pressure you, but this is usually the part where you give an answer."

I bite my lip.

"Or should I ask again?" he laughs. I don't reply and he takes my hands in his. "Deliah Lodge, will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?"

I look away staring at anything but his hypnotizing eyes. I spot a couple from our school a few inches away from us. By the looks of it they were eavesdropping and eagerly waiting for my answer.

" I-"
"The check." The waiter interrupts me, simultaneously saving me.

Keanu turns his attention to her and takes out his wallet, paying for dinner. I stand up and walk out to the car, desperately needing fresh air. When I get to the car I stare at my reflection in the window, the uncertainty clear in my eyes. The sound of the car unlocking makes me jump which makes Keanu smile as he opens the door for me and I return it before getting in.

When he drives off he turns on the radio and grabs hold of my hand. We drove silently, just listening to the radio, his hand in mine. I felt more at ease, that's until we turned into my street.

"So?" He breaks the silence when we're parked outside my house.

"Goodnight." I smile at him and turn to get out but he locks the door just as I grab the handle. "I'm not leaving without my answer." he smirks "And you know I don't mind staying in the car with you, even if it's all night." he winks.

I turn my whole body to him and make the mistake of looking him in the eyes. All signs of joking dissappears from them and neither of us look away. He stares down at my lips and I slowly lean in. I circle my arms behind his neck, my actions obviously surprising him. He too starts leaning in and just as our lips were about to touch I turn away and whisper in his ear, "My answer is no." I quickly stretch out my arm from behind him and unlock all the doors and basically ran out of the car to my front door. Once inside I subtly move the curtain to look through the window, I couldn't see his face but he just sat there for about a minute before driving off. I let go of a breath I didn't even know I was holding.

I heard my mom shuffling around in the kitchen so I went up to my room. After changing, I got into bed feeling extremely tired, but couldn't sleep. There were too many questions.

Why?
Why did I say no?
Did I want to say yes?
Did I even know what I wanted?
Wasn't this everything I ever wanted?
If so, why didn't I say yes?

All I know is, this wasn't part of my plan. Atleast not yet.

****

Walking down the school hall, I was sure everyone was staring and whispering about me. I had a feeling when a few glanced at me in the parking lot but now I was sure.

Damon was out of town so I had to take the bus to school and was now alone. When I got to my locker, my phone buzzed.

How was last night?

What?

Kinda hectic. Why?

I replied to Damon

He didn't reply and 10 seconds later my phone rang.

"Listen Dee, you need to tell me exactly what happened last night."

"Why?" I asked and looked around, people were still staring. Something told me the stares had something to do with what he was about to tell me.

"Did Keanu ask you to be his girlfriend?"

"Yess, but-"

"Did you say yes?"

"No, obviously not."

"Damnit."

"Wait, Damon. Why are you asking? Did you hear something?"

"I don't want to upset you-"

"Then tell me."

I hear him sigh over the phone. "There's a rumor going around that Collins asked you to be his girlfriend, you said yes and gave it up to him last night in his car."

My breathing hitched. That's why people were staring and whispering.

"Dee? Are you okay? Look, I can leave now and I'll be with you in about 4 hours. Dee?"

"I'm fine. Gotta go." I hung up and turned off my phone knowing he'll call again.

I shut my locker and picked up my bag speed walking towards the door. People were still staring at me, whispering. I couldn't take it.

"Don't you all have better things to do then stare and talk about me! Get a life!" I yell at everyone in the hall causing them to immediately look away. I turn to the door again and see him standing there. His arm was circled around Andreen's waist in the most inappropriate way. She was laughing at something he said before flipping her hair and catching my eye in the act. I continue my march out of school but he stops me.

"Hey-" he starts but I cut him off by shoving him out of my way.

"Don't talk to me." I say and push through the entrance doors.

I hear him excuse himself from his friends and start to follow me, that makes me walk faster. When I hear his footsteps near me I start to run. I don't look back as I run out of the school yard. I was about 10 feet away when I heard his car behind me. Not thinking I quickly ran into an unknown street and then into a small, narrow abandoned alley at the end of it.

When I knew that there was no way he could get to me, I stopped. Standing there, bent over with my hands on my knees, trying desperately to catch my breath I realized what an idiot I actually was. How stupid of me it was to think he could actually care about me and one day love me, if people like Andreen and Chelsea were in the picture. Sluts really have a way of attracting guys like him. And I refuse to lower my standards and become a slut just to catch his attention.

So I only really had one option.

I mean, he wouldn't choose some slut over me if she wasn't in the picture in the first place. And luckily, I'm excellent at arts and crafts.
