"It's seven thirty, why?" she looked at me
"Because I don't know when the ship takes off, do you know?"
She gave me a pitying look I was confused "the ship will take off in 20 minutes and you're going to be late" Uncle crow tried to hide a laugh at how blunt Lionel is, but he burst out laughing
My jaw dropped, I sprinted up the stairs to get my luggage "Why didn't you tell me earlier!" I shouted as I ran down the stairs with my luggage
"I thought you knew!" she exclaimed
Well this is great. I wore my shoes and my cape and as I headed to the door it hit me how did I not notice it before, I was leaving the only place I truly thought of as home even if it was for five years I love this home and the community around it so much that for now I can only bury this pain and hope to deal with it later. The only thing that remains is my love for this home and the people in it.
"I will miss you guys" I said blinking back tears
Lionel stepped forward and hugged me "We will miss you too, you felt like family to me even uncle crow" she started to cry, and I felt my shoulder dampen, I felt as If I hurt her.
"I'm sorry" Uncle Crow walked up to me and put his hand on my shoulder
"it's ok Ruby, you could always visit us if you want"
He sighed "...you'd better get going or you're going to be late" he said trying to sound happy I smile at them both and after Lionel stopped crying she smiled like she'd never smiled before
"Good luck at the academy and please come visit" she encouraged me, and I walked up to them and hugged them both as hard as I could
"I will" I said promising myself
As I turn to depart I run my hand down to the elongated handle, skinny at the edges, thicker in the middle, memorizing the pattern as if I not seeing it again', then I seize it, I feel part of my soul imprint onto the walls, a parting gift from me to this place.
"Goodbye" I gave a smile; my expression showed a hint of happiness and loneliness I then seize the handle and disappeared behind the door.
I ran to the port and finally made it, and the ship was almost as big as a whale. I walked into the ship and my thoughts were instantly drowned out by how many people were there.
