Hey lovelies!
Third upload of the day is going up! Hope you enjoyed the previous chapter, I thought it would be nice to see Dawood at work. I know my story isn't much right now, but we need to let the couple settle in slightly before any drama brews up! Enjoy x
- Sumaiya's PoV
Friday had finally come. I wouldn't be going in to work today. I'd told my manager that I would be celebrating my engagement with my family and she seemed really happy for me. I had also told my closest colleagues, including Noah, a fellow labour and delivery nurse who I'd befriended at university 3 years ago.
I checked the time on my phone, reading it as 09:26. I had to get up. Mama would be needing help with breakfast, Zahra and her husband wouldn't be coming till 11, Faatiha didn't finish college till 12, Yahya was seeing a physiotherapy patient but wouldn't be home until after Jumma salaah with Baba, who would be leaving for the firm soon. Baba owned a law firm, so it was important that he kept on top of everything that went on. On top of that, Hanna and her mum Aunty Alia would also be arriving this afternoon, in addition to my aunts, uncles and closest cousins.
I got up and headed downstairs, mama was so busy over the stove that she didn't even notice me walk in. I went up to her and took the spoon out of her hadn, offering to make the dish myself.
"Nonsense Sumy, today is about you, now let me do that!"
"Mama, I'm not getting married today, you have got months left till then let me do this now" I chuckled.
As me, her and baba ate, we talked and laughed about all kinds of things, making me realise that in just a few months time, I wouldn't be here to enjoy this daily ritual – I guess I'd better savour it whilst I can.
At 1:40, Zahra and Faatiha had arrived home and baba, Yahya and Sulaiman bhai were heading back from the masjid. By now, all the decorations were completed, including a simple yet elegant flower arch that would be standing in the marquee as a nice background for photos. The colours of all the decorations matched the outfits exactly: lilac flowers with small silver painted leaves for our family, and white gypsophilia with pastel blue flowers for theirs, all displayed on an arch of beautiful green leaves. Junaid would be coming round later to collect the decorations, taking Sulaiman and Yahya with him to help set up.
By four o clock, everyone who was invited had arrived at the house, and now Hanna, Zahra, Faatiha and I were in my bedroom about to get me ready. I felt slightly guilty for my couisns though, not letting them in, but they understood that they would be way more involved in the main celebrations to come. Besides, it would be a nice surprise for everyone later!
"Okay, so Zahra you're doing my base, Hanna, my eyes, and Faatiha youre doing my nails and hijab, yes?" I mentally laughed a the mumble jumble of people that would be painting different parts of my face and hands. Mama had wanted me to call a professional makeup artist, but I wanted to keep today strictly simple, so I refused, hiring only my favourite people to do the job.
45 minutes later I was done. All I had left to do was slip on my stilettos and grab my ohone before heading down to meet my family.
As I wasled down the stairs, I heard a wave of "MashaAllah" echoing through the hallway and looked u p to see all my closest family and friends watching me with such happiness in their eyes that it warmed my heart. Mama came and hugged me, a tear in her eye, Sulaimab came closer and smiled at me proudly – his little sister (in law) – Yahya enveloped me protectively, Zahra and Faatiha stood at my side and baba came forward, offering me his hand before leading me to the car that would drive me and my family to the Ali household. The rest of the guests would be following behind.
20 minutes later, w arrived, and as we pulled into the magnificent driveway, I was instantly left breath-taken. It was the first time I had come to his house and I had to say, I was super impressed. A man like him and family like he had were so lovely and humble and had so much belief in Allah that they really deserved it MashaAllah.
I was lost so deeply in my thoughts that I didn't even notice it was only me and my family left by the car. All the anuts, uncles, cousins and friends had gone to join the event.
"Are you ready?"
I nodded.
Mama and baba turned around and started walking. Zahra and Faatiha came to either side of me, and Yahya and Sulaiman followed closely behind. As we walked to the back of the house, a sight that met my eyes was more beautiful that what I could ever have imagined.
In the middle of the large lawn stood an elegant white marquee with strings of fairy lights stretched from the centre top to the floow. Inside, I saw tables to one side, and to the other, the flower are that us girls had made. Everything looked beautiful.
Soon we stopped walking, mama and baba were hugging Hajra Aunty and Uncle Abdur-Rahnmaan (Dawood's parents) and congratulating them with the words "Mubarak". The I saw them hugging him.
My siblings were next, and then it was my turn. I stepped forward and allowed myself to be enveloped my such a loving woman and caring man – and it made me realise how lucky I am to be welcomed into a family with such happiness, where everyone was so genuine and where I knew I could enjoy married life just like I had always dreamed. Alhamdulillah.
Aawwwhh! Sumaiya and Dawood are finally engaged <3
