"So, how about Saturday night?"
A voice brought me back to reality. As my feet planted firmly on the ground, I looked up to find a pair of warm brown eyes staring at me.
"Sorry?"
"How about I take you out on a date," Kai paused to smile. "On Saturday night?"
I couldn't even process. I should've felt ecstatic now that he's asking me out on a date, but my mind seemed like it has stopped working.
"Sure," I breathed. Realizing that the acceptance turned out too dry, I added, "I'd love to."
I finally succeeded to smile at him and got a smile back. We continued to walk towards our next class, side by side with a respectable space between us.
Weeks passed by since I had seen Lisa, yet she hadn't been anywhere but inside my mind. She's present in everything I do, and it frustrated me because I had never seen her ever since that night in my apartment.
Somewhere along the way, Kai and I got undeniably closer. We often spend our time together; I watched his dance rehearsals and he walked me home after, or us just simply hanging out in the library- mostly getting comfortable in silence with books opened yet untouched.
I should feel grateful and happy because this was what I've always wanted since he first introduced himself to me. But... something just didn't feel right, somehow I felt wrong, not in my happy place; as if this was not what I want.
I'm well aware that I wasn't being fair to him, for he had given his all to me, yet I had detached myself more and more each day in return. I knew that I should stop wishing for what I couldn't have, and start being grateful for what I had.
So I tried.
Saturday night, Kai had picked me up at 7 pm and brought me to a fancy restaurant. I must admit that he looked stunning in his tuxedo.
I had decided to wear a simple black dress which hugged my body perfectly. "You look gorgeous," Kai breathed as he examined my whole being with an adoring smile.
"Thank you," I smiled, getting lost in his features.
After dinner, we decided to go to the rooftop to enjoy some night view. When we arrived, I instinctively wrapped my hand around his bicep and followed him. I was actually not really fond of heights, but being with him, I felt a little safer. Just a little.
We talked as the city view be our company. The wind was sending shivers all over my body, I had suddenly regretted choosing to wear this dress that barely covered the body parts above my chest and below my thighs.
"Are you cold?" Kai suddenly asked, noticing my stiffened state.
"Yeah," I admitted, smiling shyly.
He then took off his outer and wrapped it around me, his fierce hands pressed softly against my now covered shoulders.
"Better now?" He asked with a cute grin.
"Much better," I showed off my gummy smile, feeling warmer and happier. I wasn't wrong, he was a very sweet guy.
We spent the rest of the night talking about things. I found myself getting more and more comfortable with him and what we were. When the clock struck 10 pm, we decided to head back home.
"Thank you for tonight," he smiled at me ever so sweetly. I looked up to meet his eyes and felt so adored.
"No, I should be thanking you," I said, throwing back a smile.
