SKYLAR'S POV
I had no idea about the surprise that awaited me Monday morning. It all started pretty usual, got up, got dressed, ate, and left for school. But when I parked in the parking lot, all eyes seemed to focus on me. After I made my way inside, the staring continued. I shrugged it off as people being weird for a little bit until I was approached by a frantic looking Cheyenne.
"Have you seen it?" She demanded.
"Seen what?"
She groaned. "Come on, we need to get to your locker pronto!"
She started dragging me through the halls and I swear my jaw hit the floor when I finally saw what was making everyone talk. Taped to my locker were dozens of roses. Red roses, yellow roses, and pink roses. Then sitting in the middle of my locker was a card with my name elegantly written.
"Are you going to grab it?" She asked, nudging me forward.
I gently pulled the card off my locker and opened it.
Skylar, I have something I want to show you. Tonight at 8, meet me in the school parking lot. I look forward to seeing you then, m'lady. ;)
-Xander
"Oooh..." Cheyenne said, reading over my shoulder.
I couldn't help but grin. Was this our second date? I tucked the card in my bag and opened my locker to see another card fluttering out and falling to the floor. This one had my name across it but it had different penmanship. Bending down I grabbed it and sat on the floor to read it where Cheyenne joined me.
Skylar,
I refuse to be cliche in giving you flowers. How lame. But after thinking I've decided we need to get to know eachother better. Tomorrow afternoon you're skipping class and coming on an adventure with me. I will get permission from the office, no worries there. Don't make a rash decision without giving me a chance.
-Xavier
Cheyenne looked confused so I caught her up on everything she missed.
"Wow," she murmured.
"Yeah, no kidding," I agreed, leaning my head back against the cold steel.
"I like the sound of Xander better, personally."
"I mean, I know him better but that's just because I haven't had one on one time with Xavier. Plus he neglected to tell me that I had another mate!"
"But he did that for the sake of your sanity, right?"
I sighed. "I guess so."
She opened her mouth to speak again but the bell rang. Cheyenne groaned and stood up then pulled me up. Draping an arm around my shoulder she and I walked in silence to class.
I didn't see Xander all day which was beyond weird but I tried to brush it off and focus on getting ready for tonight. Cheyenne had some homework to catch up on so she wasn't going to be able to help me, looks like I'm flying solo.
I put my hair into a fishtail braid and chose a blue tank top and white ripped skinny jeans. My calf high leather boots were warm but looked good with the jeans. I put on a denim jacket and a blue scarf. For makeup I kept it light wearing just lipgloss and minimal eyeliner. All done.
I checked my phone and the time showed it was 6:32, time to head out.
The drive was short and when I pulled in I didn't see any other cars. Instead I saw Xander standing in the middle of the parking lot wearing a tux. Holy hell he looked good. He made his way to my car and opened the door for me. Suddenly I felt extremely self conscious, he was all dressed up and I was dressed completely casual. He must've noticed because he gave a heart melting smile.
"You look beautiful."
I blushed and didn't complain when he gently took my hand and helped me out of my car.
"So where are we going?" I asked him.
"Follow me," he said grinning and squeezing my hand.
I didn't object, of course! Hello, my hot mate in a tux was holding my hand, I'm honestly surprised I could still breathe! My wolf was yipping in glee at the contact.
We walked for maybe ten minutes before we reached this clearing near the woods. Those same woods I ran in that day. Suddenly we stopped and he took out his phone and Fireflies by Owl City came on. That's when I took notice of all of the twinkly lights around me. Except, they weren't lights at all.
"Fireflies," I whispered.
"Fireflies," he confirmed.
I watched in wonder as hundreds, heck, maybe thousands of fireflies seemed to just dance around us. The music was so fitting. I felt Xander take my other hand and I snapped my attention back to him. We started swaying back and forth as the fireflies danced around us.
You know when they say time seems to stand still? That was this moment. I suddenly didn't care about anything but the two of us and this feeling. I knew I would feel for him because of the mate bond but now I'm sure that it's more than that. I genuinely have a crush on him. And I think I may end up falling soon and hard.
Xavier's POV
I sighed as I took another sip of coffee.
"You two are making the poor girl choose!" My mother hissed.
I made the mistake of telling my father the situation and he, of course told mother. Now she's pacing her kitchen reading me the riot act.
"What else are we supposed to do, mother? Share her?" I asked sarcastically.
She glared at me. "She needs time."
I threw my hands in the air. "If I hear that she needs time speech one more damn time-"
I never finished because I had to duck a flying cup. My mother was a very different lady. Most Luna's were sweet, caring, and mild mannered. Don't get me wrong, my mom was no different. But she had a fiery side and wasn't afraid to get down right violent when needed.
"No cursing in this house, Alexavier!"
I stared at her, my mouth agape. She had never done that before.
"Close your mouth! You're lucky I didn't come across this table and spank you! You might be almost grown but I'm still your mother!"
I closed my mouth then opened it again to speak before she cut me off.
"Listen here and listen good. That poor girl's life has obviously been turned upside down! Girls dream of finding their mates, it's something they think about from the time they're old enough to know what mates are," she started, taking a seat across from me at the table.
"She found out that not only will she be a Luna, which that's a lot to take in. But she has two mates. That's incredibly rare. Also, the mates want her to choose. Do you know how much that will hurt her when she has to reject one of you?" She asked softly, placing her hand on mine.
I looked down and sighed. I had never thought of how Skylar must feel about all of this.
"Sweetie," she said, causing me to glance up. "Show her that you care about her but also show her that you're willing to fight."
I nodded and she gave me a smile and patted my hand.
"But be warned, if you cause that girl to cry, you'll have to deal with your brother and me. I will come and spank you right in front of your mate and I will show her baby pictures. I'm going to tell Xander the exact same thing."
I gulped and nodded before standing up to leave.
"Good luck! I love you!" She called as I walked out the door.
I walked to my car knowing exactly what I was going to do. I was going to make her fall in love with me.
Hey guys! This chapter was supposed to be up last week but my Wattpad got all weird and wouldn't let me publish it so I had to re-write it! I hate that it's short but I hope you guys like it! Have a great last day of September and I will see you all in October! 😉
