Harry POV
"Harry, could we go for a walk? Just you & me? I want to talk to you about something", my grandpa asks me.
I look up at him curiously and then nod before getting up to grab our coats.
"So what do you want to talk to me about?", I ask as we walk out of the street, towards a bridge we always used to go when I was younger. He always took me there as a kid and we just sat there for hours. Talking about things and staring at the water.
"Your mother and Robin", he starts.
"What about them?", I ask him curiously. "They don't accept it, do they? You and Louis?"
I look at my feet as we walk further and I shake my head so tears won't start falling down when I speak.
After a few moments I feel like I can talk without crying.
"They don't, and they constantly make that clear to me, and to Louis too. It hurts grandpa. Why can't they accept us?" A tear is now falling down my cheek.
We walk in silent to the bridge and we sit down.
"You know Harry? I don't know what your parents think, and I don't know why they feel this way about your relationship. I don't know why they think being gay is a bad thing, because it isn't. Your grandma and I love and support you, always."
Tears well up in my eyes again, "Thanks grandpa."
"I'm going to tell you a story okay?", I nod and he continues talking.
"When I was a teenager, just as old as you, I had a best friend called Dean. Dean was gay, he was very ashamed of it because in that time it wasn't as accepted as it is now. He came out to me since I was his best friend. I told him that I would support him no matter what and he was really happy about my support."
"That is very nice, grandpa."
"One day he decided to come out to his parents. He had no idea how they'd react. He told them, full of hope that they'd take it okay, but they didn't. His father beat him up and his parents disowned him."
I gasp, "That is terrible."
"That day, after his parents threw him out of the house, he came to my house. He wanted to stay for a few night so he could find some place to stay. My parents didn't let him stay for a few days, they let him live with me and my family."
"That's so sweet", I smile widely.
"It was heartwarming to see my parents accept him, to see them treat him like he was their own son. And from that moment on, I had another brother. He became another part in our family, equal to everyone else."
"That's beautiful, grandpa", I say.
He nods, "I think that really made me realize that everyone is equal, no matter what. I just wanted to share this story with you because I thought you can somewhat relate."
I nod, "I came out to mom, dad and Robin two years ago and they we're so angry. They were yelling at me and they told me that I was disgusting, unnatural and weird. It hurt so much, grandpa. Mom hasn't told me she loves me ever since I came out, she can't even look me in the eyes. It feels like she doesn't care about me."
A few tears appear in my eyes now and I just let them fall down.
"Then we moved to Doncaster and I met Louis, he lives next door. We started dating after a few weeks, we already grew really close before we started dating. His dad left his mum after something personal happened to Louis, his dad didn't believe him and his mum did, his dad left because of that. And now his mum is mad at him for that. And they're both homophobic as well", I sigh, tears still falling down my cheeks.
"So as you can imagine, our situation at home isn't perfect but at least I got him. We help each other through it. I'm here to support him and he's there for me", I tell him.
"There have been a few times where one of us was crying over something in the middle in the night and we just called one another. It's just beautiful to have someone so close to you, to support you, to hold you and to love you unconditionally."
Grandpa puts his hand on my shoulder and hugs me from the side.
"Our love is not just a high school love grandpa, it's something else. Something pure, beautiful, something real. We have been through so much together and we're getting through it, together. He makes me strong."
I explain the situation, leaving out the personal stuff. Tears falling down and I'm still smiling, because of Louis. Because that's what he does to me, he makes me smile, even when I'm sad.
My grandpa sighs before he starts talking. "Your love sounds beautiful Harry, you two really have been through a lot."
"I've only known him for a year, but it feels like I've known him forever."
"I'd love to meet him", he sighs. "He sounds like a wonderful person who makes my grandson feel happy, loved and supported."
"That's all true, he does make me feel like that. And you and grandma are coming over for my birthday right?"
He nods and I smile.
"Okay that's great. You're meeting Louis that day."
"That would be great. I'd love to meet him", he smiles at me and I smile widely back at him.
"You'll love him, he's amazing", I nod and get up from the bench at the bridge.
"Let's get back", grandpa nods and we walk back to his house, talking about my upcoming birthday and Louis.
