I awoke in an incredible amount of pain. I was sore everywhere, from head to toe. But my foot throbbed and my wrist pounded like crazy. I faintly remembered waking up last night, but it was foggy. I tried to sit up.
"Hey, hey don' try to move, honey," a voice said softly. I looked up and saw my dad, gently touching my shoulder. "Hi," he said smiling.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"There was a car accident. The main artery in your wrist was busted and your leg is broken in three places. But, you're okay and it's going to stay that way," he promised. I heard the door open. Then I remembered. Blake and I arguing, him not stopping, and the car ramming right into us.
"She's awake," my dad said. I slowly turned my head and saw my mom, carrying two coffee cups. She put them down quickly and came over to me quickly, hugging me gently.
"Oh my god, Eva. You scared the crap out me!" she exclaimed, letting go.
"I'm sorry," I said weakly.
"Don't be sorry," she replied, kissing my forehead.
"Where's Blake? Is he okay?" I asked. My parents looked at each other.
"So he was driving the car?" my dad asked for confirmation.
"Well, yeah," I said as if it was obvious. My dad rubbed his head.
"Where is he? Where the people in the other car okay?" I asked again, actually sitting up this time. My mom tried to help me, but I stopped her. My wrist and leg were the only really painful things. Everything else was just sore. I moaned a little. My parents looked at each other and then back at me, seeming concerned.
"The people in the other car are okay, one is in surgery now, but they should be fine," my dad explained.
"What about Blake?" I asked them frantically, worst case scenarios racing through my head.
"He fled the scene. We don't know where he went, the police went to his house this morning and he wasn't there. Neither was his mother," my dad explained.
"Your lying. Blake would never leave me!" I shot back weakly.
"He saved your life. They found a shirt tied around your wrist. It was the only thing that kept you from bleeding out," my mom told me. "There's police out looking for him, technically leaving you and the people in the other car is considered a hit and run accident, which is a crime." I didn't say anything. It was difficult to understand what was going on. My parents sat down on the bed next to me and my mom touched my hand. "I know this is a lot to absorb. I can't even imagine how you must feel right now. Blake had always been there for you, and in some ways, he was by tying his shirt around your wrist. But, he left you there. I don't know why, but we need to find out," my mom explained.
"How?" I let out.
"Eva, I know this is the last thing you probably want to do, but the police are here to question you. They want to speak with you now while everything is still fresh in your head," my dad told me.
"Now?" I asked.
"Now. One of us is allowed to stay with you, so I'm going to. Just answer honestly and it will be over before you know it. Your answers could help them find Blake," my dad replied. I took a deep breath and nodded.
"You can tell them I'm ready," I told my dad confidently and he nodded.
"I know this is hard, but trust me, it's the right thing," he promised and I nodded. My mom kissed my forehead.
