The next few days were all pretty similar. Eva had to stay in the hospital because they needed to monitor her after going into hypovolemic shock. The boys went back to school and had left after Eva's second day at the hospital, even missing two days of college at Stanford was too much. Owen and Austin had been missing basketball practices and coming to see their little sister every day after school until visiting hours were over. They helped Eva with her schoolwork each day in the hospital. The doctors didn't think she would be able to go back until Monday, which would be missing four days of school. A lot, especially in high school. The main problem was Eva was not as determined with her schoolwork. We knew she was just struggling with her injuries, but she was in a good to decent mood until any homework was pulled out. She immediately became frustrated with whoever tried to help, it was like her passion to do her best had melted away. I didn't blame her, she was still heartbroken. We all tried really hard to help her and tell her that everything was going to be okay, but she kind of shut down. It was now Thursday and she was going home today, at least she would still have the weekend to get over everything. Another key issue was that the authorities still had not found Blake. His picture was everywhere, but nobody could seem to find him. She was on bed rest for tomorrow, but the weekend she was pretty much able to do whatever she was up for.
"I signed all the paperwork and everything, are you ready to go?" Peyton asked Eva and she nodded. She grabbed the crutches and struggled to stand up due to her huge blue cast.
"Colton and Austin will be excited to see you home," she added and Eva didn't say anything. We said goodbye to the nurses and got into the car, I had pulled it forward a little while ago so Eva wouldn't have to walk too far. I helped her into the car and got into the driver's seat.
The drive home was dead silent, Eva just stared out the window the entire time. Peyton and I tried to make conversation with her but we only got yes, no, or I don't know responses. The kid was a mess, I had never seen her like this. As we reached our house, I again helped her out of the car and she crutched inside right away and tried to go up the stairs.
"Evs, let me help you," I called after her as she struggled to get onto the first stair.
"No, I can do it," she combated.
"You're supposed to be on bedrest, I'm helping you okay?" I told her.
"Dad, I know how to go up a few stairs, just leave me alone," she snapped. That was where I drew the line.
"Hey! I don't appreciate your tone! Your mother and I have been trying our best to make this easier for you and I know it's been very hard. But, that doesn't mean you can treat us without respect!" I reprimanded and she looked down.
"I'm sorry," she said softly and I could tell she meant it.
"It's alright. Now, let me help, okay?" I told her and she nodded. I lifted her up, being careful of her leg, and brought her up the stairs. I tucked her into her bed, safe and sound and sat next to her on it.
"Are you caught up with your schoolwork?" I asked her.
"So far, yeah," she said quietly.
"Come on, honey. Talk to me," I said, snuggling in next to her on the bed.
"It just sucks. I'm going to be out of basketball for the rest of the season, school is going to get even harder because I've missed so much and on top of everything else, I lose Blake. I don't where he is or even why he left. What if I scared him off when I told him how he was hurting me?" she asked.
"It does suck. I totally agree. But, I hate to say it, but Blake knew what he was doing. Guys can be bad sometimes, but I'm proud of you for sticking up for yourself," I told her.
