Part Twenty-One

Outside The Barn

            About five minutes later, two ambulances and the police pulled up. One ambulance took Mona on the hospital with Cece and Aria while Toby sat in the back of the other one with a blanket around him. While everyone else was telling the police what happened, Spencer decided to talk to Toby. “Hey.”, she said as she approached him. “Hey.”, Toby replied, no emotion in his voice. “Are you alright?”, she asked, rubbing his shoulder. He didn’t reply for a minute, only looking at the ground. “Toby?”, she asked, making sure he was okay.

        “S-she raped me.”, Toby stuttered quietly, tears filling his eyes. Spencer’s eyes widened and moved closer to him. “Toby, I’m sorry.”, Spencer said, leaning her head on his shoulder with tears in her eyes as well. They stayed this way for a long time, forgetting where they were. Spencer just let Toby lean his head on hers and cry. It was silent, but he was crying.

          “Okay Mr. Cavanaugh. You check out as alright but we still want you to come down to the hospital just incase.”, a paramedic said as she approached them. Toby and Spencer quickly wiped their eyes and nodded in response. “You need to tell them.”, Spencer said as they climbed into the ambulance. “Spence I can’t tell them this. Just saying it once was hard enough.”, Toby replied with all seriousness.

           “But, what if you got something from Ali? Do you want to risk it?”, she asked. Toby didn’t reply. He thought about it for a moment, really thinking hard. Then, Spencer broke his silence. “Toby, if you don’t tell them…I will.”, she said, getting him to look at her. He was hesitant, then replied, “Okay.”
