~Kurama's point of view
It's been a few days since Hiei and I returned. After filling in a report for Koenma I returned to my home while Hiei took off somewhere on his own as usual. During the past few days, I catch myself thinking about Kiri regularly.
I guess that was to be expected. I rather took a liking to her. She's funny, intelligent, brave, beautiful and what not. But I realize that I will need to forget about her. After all, it's like Hiei said; she lives centuries away and I'm not even sure if she feels the same way. For all I know, she's glad to be rid of me.
As I sit on the couch, reading a book to keep myself occupied, the doorbell rings. I wonder who on earth is out in this weather as it's pouring. "Shuichi! Could you get that?" mother calls from upstairs.
Putting the book away, I walk over, opening the door for whoever was there. I don't know who I was expecting to see, but who I found standing on the front porch, soaked to the bone from the heavy rain, was not someone I expected.
"Kiri?" I ask flabbergasted. "Hi. I guess I'm a little too late for to take up that dinner invitation, so I thought I'd make it up by bringing some myself." she says smiling shyly.
"Shuichi, don't stand there gaping. Invite the poor girl in." mother scolds as she walks down the stairs. "Right." I say snapping out of it, quickly stepping inside to let Kiri in.
"Oh dear. Let me get you a towel." Mother says to her before rushing off.
I turn to the girl before me. "Kiri, what are you doing here?" "You don't mind do you?" she asks unsurely. I quickly shake my head. "No, of course not. I'm just surprised."
Mother then comes back carrying a towel. "Here you go dear. Dry yourself off a bit. Shall I get you a vest for the cold?" Kiri shakes her head. "No need, I'm not cold at all." she reassures mother.
"Oh, I see you brought something!" mother says, now noticing the bag from which a pleasant aroma is wafting through the hallway. Kiri hands over the bag to mother. "It's an early dinner." "Oh how nice. It smells wonderful and it's still warm. You must have rushed." Kiri shrugs as she wipes herself dry as well as she can.
As they converse I take the chance to look her over. She came prepared, a band tied across her forehead to hide the crescent moon. Her sneakers stand by the door and she wears a long skirt and sweater.
"Shuichi, could you please set the table? I think I'll go and find something else for her to wear after all and throw these clothes in the dryer before she gets sick." I nod to show I heard. I doubt she'll actually does get a cold, but better safe than sorry I guess. With that, I make my way to the kitchen with the food mother handed over to me, a small smile on my face. I can't believe that she came back.
~Kiri's point of view
After dinner, Kurama took me to his room so we could talk. "The food was really good. Did you make it yourself?" he asks on the way up. "I had some help." I reply with a guilty smile. I normally don't cook, so Kagome's mom helped me out.
He opens a door motioning for me to go in. After walking in after me, he closes the door softly. "I was really surprised to see you here. I was pretty sure you wouldn't come back." he says, sitting down in a chair at his desk as he motions for me to sit on the bed.
"I could right? Besides, there's still much to see and to do." I tell him. Honestly it was Kagome who send me back. She saw me mope after they left and thought it would do me good, but I'm not about to tell him that.
"I'm sorry for hurting you the other day. Did your leg heal up well?" he ask apologetically as he refers to our fight back then. "Yeah, but why are you sorry? It was a fight, you're supposed to get hurt. I hurt you." I remind him.
"I know, it's just as Youko I tend to be a bit more ruthless than I mean to be." he explains. "Oh? I didn't think it was that bad." I assure him. "I'm glad." he says before growing quiet.
"What's wrong?" I ask. He looks unsure, but speaks up anyway. "Don't get this the wrong way, but why is it you came to me? I know it isn't just for dinner."
This time, I'm the one unsure of what to say and I take a minute to think it over. "Well, when in this world, it's nice to have a friend. And you're a really nice guy..." I finally say, trailing off. He smiles warmly. "Thank you Kiri. I would gladly be your friend." he says making me smile.
As the night fell he told me stories, on my request, of the things they've done while working for Koenma. It sounded really exciting. It must be nice to be working in such a close team and being able to trust each other during difficult times. In return, he asked me if I ever done something like that which made me recall the trouble with Naraku. As I ended my story, there came a knock on the window.
Kurama stands up, opening it for Hiei who jumps inside. It seems it stopped raining since he's still dry. He looks at me curiously. "What's the woman doing here?" "Just visiting." I tell him.
"Did Koenma send you?" Kurama asks. He shakes his head before positioning himself in the windowsill. "I'm guessing you're hungry then. I'll go get you a plate." Kurama says walking out the door.
"Hn. You must've made Kurama's day." Hiei states randomly once Kurama's out of earshot. "Huh? What do you mean?" I ask confused.
He says nothing more and I let it drop as Kurama walks back in with a plate of leftovers. Hiei takes it, losing all interest in the people around him as he digs in. Kurama and I just make small talk until it's time for me to go. I don't want to arrive at Kagome's in the middle of the night.
As Kurama and I walk down, we meet up with his mom. "Kiri, your clothes are dry now. I packed them in the bag by the door. You can return the other clothes anytime you like." "Thank you, also for having me." I tell her with a small bow. "No problem at all. Be careful on your way home alright." I nod.
After putting on the still slightly soggy shoes, Kurama opens the door for me. "Would you like me to walk you home?" he asks. I smile at him, "That won't be necessary. I'm a big girl and I think any thugs will end up being the ones afraid."
"Probably." he chuckles. "Will you still be here tomorrow?" he suddenly asks. "I guess so. Why?"
He seems to go a bit shy all of a sudden. "Well, perhaps I could show you some more things this time has to offer, if you don't have any plans with Kagome that is." he offers. "I haven't. Kagome has what she calls 'summer school'. So yeah, I'd like to come with you." I say to him.
He smiles brightly. "Great. I'll pick you up tomorrow morning." "Alright. See you then." I tell him, picking up the bag with the clothes Kagome borrowed me and leaving the house.

I can't help but celebrate silently within myself as I watch her go. As she disappears out of sight, I finally close the door. Turning around with a sigh I come face to face with my mother who has a knowing smile. "Did you just ask her out?" she asks, laughter hidden in her voice. I blush brightly giving her the answers she's seeking for.
She giggles excitedly. "I'm so happy. She's such a nice girl. What was that 'this time' you were talking about though?" I look at her shocked. She heard that? "It was just an inside joke." I tell her, trying to come across genuine. "Okay. Well, I'm off to bed. Goodnight honey." "Goodnight mother." I tell her before returning to my room.
