Soon after jumping into the well the next day, I can sense something is off. "Oh oh." "What oh oh? What's wrong?" Kagome asks alarmed as we touchdown in the feudal world. I point up, mouthing 'Sesshomaru'.
She nods in understanding before patting me on the shoulder, showing that she's there for me. I smile wearily in thanks before jumping up and out the well. Before I know it, a small weight is latched onto my legs. "I missed you big sister!" I smile down at the small girl before crouching down, wrapping her in a tight hug. "I missed you too Rin." I tell her kissing her forehead.
I look up, only to cringe at the glare I receive from my brother. "Hi?" I say timidly. "Hn." I sigh at his lack of response, getting to my feet as Kagome quietly stands off to the side. "Let me have it already. No use putting it off any longer." I tell Sesshomaru, crossing my arms stubbornly.
"You shouldn't have left without telling me." he says, his voice appearing as calm as ever, but I know better. "Would you have let me go if I did?" I counter. "No." he answers bluntly. "Well there you have it. That's why I didn't tell in the first place." I reason.
"We had an agreement that you would ask for my consent on matters as long as you're not powerful enough to be my match." he reminds me after a moment of silence.
"That was ages ago and I think we can conclude that I will never be able to become as strong as you, but how am I ever to have any adventures of my own if you're constantly breathing down my neck?" I retort annoyed.
In return, his glare turns even harder. "Adventures you say? Is that why you carry the smell of a man on you?" he says taking me aback. "Hey, what are you getting at?!" I scowl back at him.
Kagome, seeming to have a sixth sense for when things are about to get ugly, ushers Rin to come with her, leaving me alone with Sesshomaru.
"You have duties sister. I can't stand for it if you decide to elope with some random demon." he continues. "Elope?! What do you take me for?!" I almost screech, offended. "You tell me, what am I to take you for?" he asks. "Well nothing like that, I assure you. And I know you can smell that I did no such thing!" I say in my defense before ranting on.
"And those duties you speak of, is just being a sweet little wife to some guy you picked out and make lots and lots of baby's with this guy who I care nothing about. I'm sorry Sesshomaru, but such a life is not enough for me." I tell him defiantly.
"How selfish. Do you care nothing about you're lineage?" he asks, nearly gritting his teeth now. "Of course I do! You should never question the pride I hold for being part of this family." He snorts, "If that's true, you have an odd way of showing it."
I huff, turning away from him, frustrated. "This is getting us nowhere. Why can't you just have faith in me? Trust me to know what I'm doing?"
"Because you let yourself be led by emotions. You can't trust emotions, they cloud your vision." he says, trying to let me see things his way, but it doesn't work. "Heh, that's rich. If you dare to tell me that you have never let emotions lead you, you would be telling yourself lies." I counter. "Hn."
I look over my shoulder at him. "With all due respect big brother... Get a woman!" I sneer before stalking off to Kaede's, my head held high in a defiant way.
...........
It's been three days since my falling out with Sesshomaru and I find myself walking the now more familiar streets of modern Japan. It's not that I don't care about his opinion, but he really needs to learn to put some more trust in me. It really hurt that he didn't do so in the first place. He knows me best out of everyone I know and has been my great example for all my life. He should know me better than thinking me to do foolish things when he isn't around.
I first dropped by Kurama's house to find him not there, but Shiori was though. She directed me towards Yusuke, where I was sure to find him. Having no idea where Yusuke might reside, I just made my way across town until I happen to pick up his scent. From there on, it was easy to locate him.
Several people jumped up in shock as I slid open the door to his bedroom rather loudly. "Oops. Sorry about that." I apologize. "Kiri?" Yusuke asks confused. I smile sheepishly, "Hi!"
I turn to Kurama, seeing his questioning gaze. "Your mom told me where I could find you." I explain. "I see, but how did you find this place? My house is miles away."
"Meh, following my nose usually does the trick." I say as I throw myself on the bed like it's my own.
"So, what are you guys up to?" I question as my hand dives into the sack of potato chips that Kuwabara was munching on. Yeah, I know what those are. "Hey! Get your own." he says holding it up high before I get any. His reflexes are fast when it comes to food.
Kurama chuckles before answering my question. "We were just about to head over to Genkai's to train."
"Hm, who is that?" I question in wonder. "That's the old fruitcake that trained me to be as strong as I am now." Yusuke explains. "Oh? And she's human?" I ask for elaboration. "Uhu." is the answer I receive from him.
"She must be pretty though for a human. Would you mind if I came along?" I ask excited. "Not at all." Kurama answers immediately, making the other two snicker. "What?" I ask them, not noticing Kurama glaring at them.
"It's nothing. Don't worry you're pretty little head about it." Kuwabara says, ruffling my hair. "Knock it off." I tell him, swatting his salty hand away.
...........
"Here, this is yours." Kurama says, handing over a small paper. "What is it?" I say, making sure to keep my voice low so random humans don't overhear. "It's your ticket. You need one to ride the train." I look at him blankly. "Wha...?" "You'll see in a minute. Just remember you're motto." he tells me. "Right." I nod.
It's a good thing he reminded me because the metal vehicle that stopped in front of us only a moment later is really impressive and a bit scary to say the least. As we got in, I had a hard time keeping my face straight and after taking a seat it started to move. In response my hands whip out, clasping onto Kurama's arm.
"Are you alright?" Kurama asks a bit worried while Yusuke and Kuwabara snicker in amusement. I just nod stiffly as I glance outside to see the world pass by at an enormous speed. I believe I'm pretty fast myself, but this takes the cake.
"Do you think she'll get a heart attack if she ever were to fly a plane?" Kuwabara questions. "I wouldn't be surprised." Yusuke says in response.
"Guys." Kurama scolds glancing at my white face. "It won't be too long." he reassures me in a soft voice while he strokes my hand. It helps me to keep my composure, but that's about it.
When they finally tell me it's time to get out, I race out of the contraption, leaving them in the dust. They meet up with me a few hundred yards away where I'm animatedly retelling my most recent experience to Hiei who I happened to find in a tree. I'm glad when I find he shares my feelings on the metal contraption.
"I told them to take a portal. I just don't understand why they insist on doing things the 'human' way. It's a waste of time." he says. "And why expose yourself to being packed into that metal contraption, squeezed in between all those sweaty humans." he finishes. "Exactly. And what's wrong with a good run? I know one thing, I'm not going back with that thing." I announce.
"Well awesome, are you guys ready to go now?" Yusuke asks boredly. "Don't worry, we're walking the rest of the way." he says when seeing my suspicious look.
After a descent walk and climbing some long stairs, we reach a building similar to a temple from which Botan runs to greet us. "Hi you guys! I see you brought company." she smiles before turning to me, scolding, "Kiri, you left my closet in a mess. How could you do that?" "Your shirt left my chest exposed! What did you expect?" I retort.
Hiei's face grows red at the memory while Kurama puts two and two together, making his face turn pink as well. He coughs in his hand awkwardly to cover it up. Yusuke and Kuwabara only grin stupidly. "Oh, I didn't realize. Well, anyway... Let's introduce you to Genkai and Yukina." Botan says before dragging me off, leaving the guys to go train as planned.
