I'm Diana Fox. I turn 17 tomorrow actually. I attend Raven-Wood Academy. I live with my mother, Gloria, in a studio apartment. My mystery dad left before he knew my mom was pregnant...with me of course. I'm an only child so it gets pretty lonely sometimes, but because I'm an only child, i can focus a lot more on school.

I'm top of my class and most likely going to be valedictorian by my senior year.  I'm a junior.

Oh, I forgot. I lied, I technically don't go to Raven-Wood anymore. I go to this school called Edgewater High School. It's a fine arts school. Wondering how I got in?

Me too.

I got an acceptance letter a few weeks ago. I did look it up on google and it said that it's a school for only the most cutthroat descendants of gang leaders. However, another website said it's a regular fine arts with an arsenal of classes to choose from.

I'm not saying I believe in it but my conscience is telling me too.

"Diana, come to the table for dinner!" I rush down the hall and sit down as quickly as possible.

"Diana Fox, is there a reason that you ran like a cheetah from your room to the table?"

"You said last night that you would tell me more about Dad today.  So here I am!" I say excitedly.

"I did say that, didn't I? Oh well, he was a charmer, a player if you will, he got in a lot of trouble as a high school student. He even told a teacher to fu-" I interrupt her.

"You know, you've never told me his name..."

Gloria sighs. "I know, I haven't told you his name because if I did you would go around the world trying to find him!"

"Dammit, I thought I had it!... did he got to Edgewater?"

"Yea, he was at the top of the social food chain and I was at the bottom, I still wonder to this day why he chose me instead of one of the other girls..."

There is silence for a while, like the air is pressing down on us.

"Hey...mom I googled Edgewater and it said it was a school for aspiring drug lords, is that true?" She hesitates.

I can tell she's trying so hard to tell me something but its on the tip her tongue.

"What, are you c r a z y? You should know better than to believe those kinds of things! Edgewater is a fine arts school!"

"Okay, okay, I get it jeez."

"Now go get ready for bed, you got a big day ahead of you!"

As I'm putting my plate away, I can't help but think about what my mom is hiding from me. It seems pretty serious from what I've heard about my father. Wait! If my father went to Edgewater, I can easily find what his name is, what he looks like and where I can find him! And what mom is hiding.
