Sabina shot up in bed, her chest feeling heavy as if somebody was sitting on her. She couldn't breathe, her body felt like it was on fire. Her lungs tightened and her eyes filled with tears. She had a nightmare about the night she was displaced, she hadn't had one in so long because she had shoved the memory to the back of her mind so it wouldn't drive her insane.
The last panic attack she had was on the bathroom floor of Oscar's house, when he held her and told her she would be okay. She knew she was safe after that and her anxiety vanished completely. But Oscar was no longer there, she was gonna have to get through it by herself. So she stood the best that she could, her legs shaking as she she walked towards the bathroom, pushing the door open. Her sharp breaths increased as she looked in the mirror, attempting to console herself whilst fighting her demons. She made a fist, opening and closing it, trying to match her breathing with the rhythm of her hand.
Her shaky hand then reached for a bottle of pills, it rattled in her hand as she struggled to open it. No matter how hard she tried; she couldn't get it open. That was until she pulled the top off with full force and the bottle exploded, causing the little white pills to fly all over the sink and bathroom floor.
She cried, not having the strength to pick them up frustrated her to say the least. So she slid onto the floor, bringing her knees in as she rocked herself like Oscar use to. But it didn't work, so she began to hit her head with her hands, hating herself for not being able to control it. Angry that she couldn't get herself together.
"No one had her back like I did." Oscar said, taking a sip from his beer can. "I can't believe she switched up on me like that. Switched up on us like that."
Cesar looked up slightly, but didn't make eye contact, his eyes quickly looking back down at the beer in his hand. He felt bad, he didn't want him to hate Sabina, but he also didn't want him to fall in love with an impossibility.
Oscar stood from the table, sliding his chair in. "Night mano."
"Wait." Cesar stood, "I.. " Oscar nodded, waiting for him to continue. "I should tell you something." Cesar sighed, setting his beer on the table. "Sabina and I planned it all out." Oscar raised his eyebrow, puzzled. "She called me to let me know she was coming by to pay you back for helping her out. I told to her act different so it would be easier for you to let her go."
Oscar scoffed, laughing softly at the end as he shook his head. "Damn."
"She never meant to hurt you." Cesar swallowed, "actually she wanted to do the complete opposite." He pulled out his phone, "and I've been keeping in touch with her, just to make sure she's okay where she is." He opened the text messages, handing his phone over to Oscar who studied it carefully. There it was, the proof she didn't mean what she said and still cared about them. "Maybe you should call her." Oscar looked up at him, his eyes low. He continued by nodding at his unsure brother. "Go ahead."
Oscar clicked her contact, then clicked on the call button, bringing the phone up to his ear as it rang. It picked up after a second, but he don't hear anything, nothing but silence. He went to hand Cesar his phone to him but then she spoke and his heart dropped.
"Cesar?"
Oscar panicked, tossing the phone to Cesar who caught it, taking it to his ear. "Hey Sabina." Her cries from the other line caused Cesar to furrow his eyebrows. "Are you okay?"
"C-Cesar."
"Oh my god, Sabina?"
Oscar became worried, snatching the phone out of his hand. "Sabina? Are you okay?"
She was finally able to take in a hiccuped breath. "Oscar?"
"What's going on?"
Cesar nudged at Oscar so he would put the phone on speaker.
"Talk to me mama, what's going on?"
When she didn't say anything his handed Cesar the phone. "I'm gonna go get her." He grabbed his car keys, storming out of the house before Cesar could try to stop him.
Cesar panicked, scrambling to put the phone to his ear. "Sabina, if you can hear me, Oscar is on his way, just..." he stomped his foot a couple of times, thinking. "Hold tight."
