you were missing. no one has seen you for months after you accidentally destroyed a public building, killing dozens. you were feeling better about the whole thing, but the guilt was still there, throbbing under your skin.
you thought it was finally time to go back. to rejoin the team. the last person you saw was steve, and you would never be able to unsee the look of complete sadness in his eyes as you left. but he understood you needed your space, even if he wanted to be there for you, as your best friend and lover.
so it was understandably a shock for him when he saw that it was you driving the unfamiliar helicopter. he didn't even fully realize it was you until you had landed, he had already called up the team that was there to go to the roof. he rushed at you as soon as you were out of it, picking you up in a hug that made your feet leave the ground. he began to swing you around making you giggle. when he sits your feet back on the ground, your a little dizzy, but not so much that you don't see the kiss coming.
