I gasped in shock as I saw Konju dodging bullets from 2 masked men, using a pair of nunchucks to send the bullets away from him. The sounds of metal clashing and humming filled the air. I frowned as I tried to pinpoint the location of the humming, but failed to find it.
"Just give it up! We know you were chosen to wield the Fluctuation Artefact! After all, who else could it be?!" One of the masked men yelled.
"Hieru is right! You're the only Undiscovered Nature in the town! Why WOULDN'T it choose you?!" the other one agreed.
"So just give it up now and we might be lenient, Borrowed Actor!" 'Hieru' shot a bullet to Konju's leg, causing Konju to wince.
"Never! You Dark Balancers will never get your hands on the Artefact!" Konju still managed to growl out before the other guy shot him on his other leg, causing him to collapse. My eyes widened. My legs, which had been shaky before, rushed to his side in 5 seconds flat.
"Konju?! You okay?!" I panicked.
His eyes widened, "Aruke?! What are you doing here?!"
"I'm here to rescue you!" I quickly took out some bandages I always bring around with me in case I got hurt and was about to treat him when I felt a gun nozzle touch my head. I froze.
"Eeh? Who's this guy now?" Hieru drawled out as he pushed the nozzle closer to my head. I gulped in worry, but I kept myself calm, remembering all my martial arts lessons before; the moment I lose focus, they would win at once.
"No one of your concern," I coldly replied. "I'm just here for my friend."
"Oh, I'm sorry, little kid, but your friend has something we want, and he doesn't want to give it up," Hieru stepped closer in order to close off my escape.
I internally smiled.
"If he doesn't want to give it up, then that's that, so don't force him to give it up," I calmly replied.
I could hear him growl, "What?!" as his temper flared hearing that. He got even closer to me in rage.
That was my cue to suddenly grab the gun and aim it to the ceiling while using my other hand to hit his thigh, causing him to screech in pain as he fell to the floor. I quickly grabbed the gun and was about to kick it away when the other guy grabbed my arm and pulled me up. Unfortunately, he was twice my height, so I was forced to dangle from the ground.
"You've got some nerve to touch my brother like that, kid," he scowled, taking out a pocket knife from his pocket. "You'll pay for that."
"No, you guys are going to pay for what you did to Konju," I shot back before I swung and kneed him in the stomach, effectively sending him to the ground and knocking him out unconscious.
I smiled victoriously as I stood up, "Never understimate nor overestimate your opponent."
"You..." Hieru suddenly growled as he got up, holding his thigh in pain, but he had his gun in the other hand, "You are going to PAY!"
I barely managed to dodge Hieru's shot as he tried to shoot me, his face full of pure rage. I managed to dodge some at first, but then he sent a flurry of bullets at me.
It was at that time that my hand brushed over the Fluctuation Artefact, which I had secured in my jacket, and I remembered what Konju had said about how it worked.
I guess that it's now or never. I decided, so I took it out and quickly picked an emerald before I placed it on the MP3 player's hole.
Almost immediately, time froze on the spot. It was like a motion picture, only it was not moving. But I didn't waste my time on that.
I rushed to Konju, who was as frozen as them, and quickly applied the bandages to all his injuries before I carried him bridal-style and rushed out of the warehouse.
Just in time too, since the Fluctuation Artefact ran out after we got out. I quickly took out a piece of iron from the pouch and switched out the emerald for it.
Then a portal appeared in front of us. I quickly put the Fluctuation Artefact in my pocket before I grabbed Konju and carried him inside.
We popped up inside the treehouse, and I quickly put Konju on the bed before I sighed in relief and sat on the cushion.
Thank goodness he's safe now... I'm not sure what I would have done if I hadn't rescued him....
I looked at the Fluctuation Artefact.
I smiled, "Thank you, Fluctuation Artefact. You helped me save my friend, who I would never have met if you hadn't come into my life. I am really grateful for that. That's why... I've made my decision. I'm going to fight the Dark Balancers with Konju and keep you safe."
The Artefact glowed a bit, as if it heard me and was responding accordingly.
That just made me giggle happily.
