The two of us rushed down and began running for the town center. However, we were suddenly blocked by Kure and his lackeys.
I growled, "I'm not in the mood for this, Kure. Stay away from us unless you want another beating."
"That's not going to happen this time around, freak, and do you know why?"
Konju and I looked at each other. Butterflies poked a hole into a corner of my stomach as I turned back and asked, "Why?"
His response made the two of us freeze, fear slowly beginning to grip my stomach.
"Because there is a prize for anyone who can grab you and take you to the town center alive."
"Okay........" Konju trailed off. "Well, sorry then."
"Huh?" the group blinked in confusion.
He immediately grabbed me and ran off. "SEE YA LATER, SLOWPOKES!!"
We could hear Kure scream out, "Get them you fools!" before hurried footsteps sounded out behind us.
"Aruke, we gotta split up!" Konju panted out as he managed to keep up with me.
"Got it! Meet up at school?"
"Meet up at school," Konju nodded before we immediately separated, with our pursuers doing the same.
I had gone to the left alley, which led us to the forest. I grinned a bit. I have been traversing through the woods since I was a kid, so I knew it like the back of my hand.
All right, let's see. If I'm not mistaken, I should be able to get to school using the back entrance which is protected by the trees. This shouldn't be a challenge, unless, of course, my stamina runs out at the worst time possible. I shuddered a bit before I entered the forest. I sure do hope not.
As it was noon, I could mark out my path pretty well, so I put my plan into action.
First, to get rid of my pursuers, which sadly included Kure, I jumped and slid under a lot of tight spaces. Since I was quite agile and small, my height only reaching Konju's shoulders, I could squeeze through tiny holes and leave my bigger and slower pursuers behind.
After that, I arrived at the river and jumped onto the rocks that were there, making sure it wasn't too long since I knew that it was very very slippery so I could get to school, which was on the other side of the riverbank.
However, I slipped on one of the way more slippery rocks and nearly fell had it not been for the branch over my head, which I grabbed and used to swing myself to the other bank.
"Phew..." I sighed in relief before I heard shouts of anger as Kure and his lackeys appeared beside me, their faces red in anger.
"Oh dear..." I mumbled. "This is going to be much more trickier..."
"GET BACK HERE, YOU FREAK!" Kure howled.
"Sorry, but not happening!" I shouted back before I sprinted off.
"COME BACK HERE!!!!!" Kure and the rest gave chase.
This part of the forest was way more dangerous and had less tiny holes, which is why I got tired after a while.
"Ha... Ha..." I panted as I took out the Fluctuation Artefact, wondering if I could transport to school before I passed out.
Unfortunately, Kure's shout of "There he is! Get him!" did not help matters at all.
I groaned a bit as I put it on my other hand, taking out an amethyst from my pouch and placing it on the hole.
Time stopped for a while, but I didn't waste my time. I quickly put a piece of aluminium on top of the amethyst.
Almost immediately, a portal opened up in front of me. I ran through without hesitation, reappearing in front of the back entrance.
I grinned as I opened the door, quickly closing it after I had slid in.
"All right, let's go," I mumbled as I took my hat out and put it on before I walked out to the hallways...
Only to see everyone's heads swivel over to me after I accidentally crashed into a vase.
"Uh oh..." I mumbled before I whipped out the Fluctuation Artefact again and placed a garnet on it.
This time, everyone around me were trapped by 'boxes' that kept them from getting me. I grinned as I ran to the entrance, only to see that I had another tail; Hieru.
"You think that you can run?! Dream on it!" he shouted while lunging forward, trying to tackle me. I dodged slightly and rushed off after kicking him, placing the ruby in the hole above the garnet.
Once again, time froze. I didn't waste time on sightseeing, though. I immediately rushed away, arriving at the entrance, where Konju was jogging over to.
"Konju!" I called out. His head swivelled over, and he sighed in relief.
"Aruke!" he hugged me. "I was so worried!"
"Were you now?" I blinked.
"Yeah... Kugewa came after me, so I made him crash into my pursuers before rushing off. Being a Borrowed Actor DOES come in handy," he grinned.
"Good to know. Ready to go save our parents?"
"Ah," he prepared his nunchucks. "The town center is just nearby."
"We should hurry. We have 30 minutes left to go," I warned.
Konju nodded in understanding, "The final battle is coming up, Aruke. You ready for it?"
I nodded back, "Ah." as I gripped the Fluctuation Artefact tightly.
Don't worry, everyone. To save not only the multiverse, but everyone here, we'll bring the Dark Balancers down once and for all!
