My name is Lyra Kentauros and I am an orphan.

A weird thing to say to a stranger, I am well aware of this, but my story only gets weirder from here.

You see I had been left at the edge of the forbidden forest when I was just a baby, with nothing but a bit of cloth wrapped around my small body to keep the chill at bay. But I wasn't alone, my sister Teal Kentauros was left right beside me in somewhat of a similar condition.

Now if you were to spot us side by side, which we usually were, you'd probably question the whole 'sisters' thing which is understandable, considering we look nothing alike, but we considered ourselves sisters all the same and in the end that's all that matters.

Anyways, I'm getting off track here, so back to the story.

So there we were, wailing together in the night, cold and hungry, when a colony of Centaurs had passed through and heard our cries.

Eventually they came to the decision that they would take us in as one of their own, which was sweet of them, considering Centuars were rather hesitant to involve themselves with humans, magical humans none the less.

They raised us regardless, building us a small hut, a shelter to live and grow up in, a home.

They taught us how to read and write, to look up to the stars and know every constellation. They taught us how to speak and to use magic when we begun showing signs of magic.

And when Teal and I showed extraordinary abilities that no simple wizard possessed they taught us how to use and grow them too.

I feel it's important to state that I am a seer,  able to see into the future with visions that make me near blind when I have them, and for less extravagant displays of my ability I learnt to read Tarot cards to predict simple futures, which proved to be less straining.

Teal on the other hand is a Legilimens, able to read an individuals thoughts or in instances where time is limited, she can touch them to make it easier to read people.

Despite spending most of our time honing our skills, the colony often arranged regular visits with professors who resided within Hogwarts in order to keep our minds sharp and up to date with the wizarding world.

I can still remember when we were first introduced to Professor Mcgonagall, and the slight look of shock that had graced her features when she learnt of Teal and I was more then amusing.

More often then Teal and I cared to count, we were offered our own dorm to reside in amongst the walls of Hogwarts, but we never did end up taking the offer after having grown comfortable with the colony and our home.

However we continued our advanced lessons with the professors and on our eleventh birthday Dumbledore himself had paid a visit to out little hut to deliver our acceptance letters for Hogwarts.
