"If we ride full speed all day then we might arrive by nightfall, but it would be tiring for the horses" to be truthful I wanted to do exactly that, to see my father but like I said it would be too tiring for arod and brego.

"We ride into the night for there is nothing to threat us anymore across these lands, it will also mean that we will have many breaks so the horses can rest" he said wisely and I nodded in agreement.

"That sounds the best solution...and I worry...if we do not get there in time then...he could be gone"

Aragorn's PoV:

We had been travelling through the fields all day and night and we had finally arrived by the peak of the morning. I had noticed Legolas would keep speeding ahead of me on occasions and he seemed to yearn more to see his Ada by the second. We arrived at the gates of Mirkwood and it was unnervingly quiet...extremely quiet as if no one had stepped foot inside this realm in decades. Legolas fiddled with his fingers and breathed heavily in and out. There were no guards, guarding the door, no one at all or no elves walking by cheerfully. I felt uneasy.

I and Legolas locked eyes before he spoke with a quiver in his voice "it's true...undoubtedly true"

"What is?" I questioned but he did not answer so I sighed heavily and kicked the door but to no avail, it wouldn't budge the slightest. So I kicked again. And again without hesitation.

"Give it up Aragorn, these doors were made by the elves...it won't move. It's hopeless"

"No...I don't want to see you so sad anymore, I am fed up with it. I want to see you smile...and the only way I can do that is if I can open this do-" Just then, the door slammed opened making me fall to the floor.

A tall elf with brown hair walked out of the door and I got up to my feet "K-king Aragorn what are you doing making such a commotion?" He then looked at Legolas and his eyes widened in shock, stepping back "And k-Prince l-Legolas"

"Where is my Ada?..." he hesitated to answer so Legolas shouted at him making us both wince "Where is he!?"

"I'm sorry, Kin-" Legolas didn't hear the last of it and ran forwards, pushing the elf out of the way and into the throne room. Thranduil was not on his elegant throne as he once was. There were no elves guarding it or any elves in sight to be precise. A note on the throne caught my attention and I ran up to it and grabbed it making stomping sounds echo throughout the hall, Legolas following behind me. I grabbed the letter and scanned over it fast, my eyes widening in shock at what I saw written:
