The forgotten groom

Chapter 35

Max's POV

It's been almost three weeks! Three weeks of this back and forth! Nik and I barely see each other!
He's so busy planning and strategizing for contingency plans , he's practically living at the office and I really understand that but we're like two married strangers living in our house .

Nik is up so early and comes back home so late.
He won't let me help with anything! That's the source of my frustration!
Seeing Nik beyond stressed and working so much puts me on the edge especially when he won't let me or his parents help!
I have told him several times that I have some properties I inherited from my father and the farm house. If it came down to it, we can sell them.

So I decided that enough is enough and today I was going to meet him at work and talk this out! We're married for crying out loud! We're supposed to help each other through everything!

I drive to his office and decide to grab him some food, he's probably not eaten or caught up in those endless meetings with his executives.

I take the elevator to his office and greet some of the staff I find on the way. I gently push the door and peek in .
He's very surprised to see me and quickly gets up to hug me.
I hold on tight and kiss him hard. With all these hard times, it's been a while since we even had 5 minutes just to hug and smile into each other's eyes

"Max, what a suprise!" He says pulling me with him and sitting back in his chair with me on his laps
I blush as I look him in the eyes

"I know! I decided if I can't have you home with me, I might as well just come and meet you here" I reply leaning into him and just putting my hands around his neck

He smiles and pulls me closer, slowly kissing my lips.

" mmmh, feels good having you here, you're a breathe of fresh air, you make it all easier to bear"he says looking at me

I frame his face with my hands and just brush back his hair.

"I love you " I tell him

"I also brought lunch" I say reaching out to grab the bag of food and showing him the different options I brought for him.
He excitedly grabs a sandwich and bites into it hungrily as I laugh

"Thank you love, I know I've been so busy and we've barely spent anytime together but I will fix this, I miss you " he says

"Why won't you let me help you ?" I ask and bring up this touchy subject again

"Because it's unnecessary! I said I'll fix it!" He says

" We're supposed to be partners but if you won't even share with me or let me help" I say helplessly getting off his lap and walking towards the window and stare at the City Skyline and at the tall buildings surrounding us

"It's alright, I'll get my company back, it's what I'm working on" he says

"Maybe I... I can ask grandfather to help?" I suggest

"NO! Do not involve him in any of this!  I don't need his charity or anything from him! This is my war ! Promise me you won't get involved in this issue Max" he says

I'm very surprised at his reaction! Why would he react like that?

"I promise I won't get involved" I tell him

He turns and looks at me measuring to see if I'm being genuine and sincere

"I'm serious Max, do not get involved in this matter" he says

"Fine! I won't ! " I say rolling my eyes at his serious tone

We finish our lunch and I sit down and take some work calls as Nik continues doing some work on his computer.

I don't know how my mind drifts off but suddenly all I can picture is Nik naked and my mind flushes I mean it's been a while since we were together like that and he's looking very sexy in that suit all looking serious and handsome.
And he's my husband!

"Damn it Max, can you stop looking at me like that" he says getting up from desk striding towards me

"Like what?" I say blushing

"Like you want to strip me" he says pulling me up to him

"There's a bedroom here, wanna take a nap with me? He asks

"Just a nap?" I ask suspiciously

"Well .... other things can be done " he winks putting out his hand and I go to him

We head out to the bedroom in his office and as soon as we get in , Nik pushes me against the wall

"Don't scream, I'm going to do very bad things to you " he says pinning my hands above my head.

By the time we leave his office, I don't even want to look at anyone! I'm sure I look exactly like what we've been doing! Now everyone will think I came to the office to seduce Nik!
And he's just laughing at me unbothered calling me Saint Max

" We're married Max" he says laughing

"Whatever " I say as we head to the garage

It was actually such a good day, we were actually going out to eat something and going to spend some more quality time together. I think and smile

We go to dinner and have the most amazing conversations and Nik can't stop laughing at the stories I tell him about the animals I take care of and he promises to come and work with me one of these days

After we finish our dinner and we're heading out, we're bombarded by reporters and we both try to get to our car but they can't stop shouting questions at us.
Nik curses out and pulls his phone to ask for security. We sit back in the restaurant and he holds my hand very concerned for me as we wait to be escorted out.

"Is it true that Starlinksy Corporation is being taken over and about to collapse?collapsed ? What should we expect next? Do you have a response plan?" Is it true they're being backed by a big fish ?"

We power through the flashing lights and get into our car and drive off as fast as we can.
