I once again found myself running from the school when the bell ranged, I was halfway from the cafe when my sister Jane called me. "What" I answered as I walked in " can you pick up Lucy from school?" She asked "what?! Why can you do it?!" I whisper yell "because I'm at work and I have a night shift!" She yelled back "fine" I mumble "thank you" she said as she hung up. Ever since my second oldest sister Martha left for college, I've been responsible for Lucy and the twins; Anna and Randolph; and Jane is moving out soon anyways. I quickly leave the cafe and head for Lucy's school, I made it to her school in a matter of 10 minutes. I walked to the school and walked in "hello, how my I help you?" The lady at the desk asked " um...I'm here to pick up Lucy Jefferson" I said, she nodded her head as she grabbed this phone and started talking. Lucy then came around the corner with her stuff "Hey Lucy" I greeted as I picked her up "hi tommy! Where's Jane?" She asked tilting her head to the side I let out a huff and began to explain "Jane's at work and she couldn't come to pick you up so she sent me" I said with a shrug as we began to walk towards our home "oh....aren't you supposed to be visiting lex?" She asked "yeah" I said disappointedly "aw someone misses his boyfriend" Lucy teases as she pokes me "n-no...I don't" I said stuttering slightly while blushing "awe! Thomas has a boyfriend!" Lucy said excitedly, I unlocked the door expecting to be met with an empty house but mom and dad were sitting on the couch....and Lucy was still talking about me having a so called boyfriend "o-oh....hello mama and papa" Lucy said giving them a smile as I sat her down "hello Lucy...Thomas" father said as he told Lucy to go upstairs and do her homework "Thomas" mom started as she walked forward "what's this talk about you having a boyfriend" father said grimacing at the word " u-um....you know Lucy she can be very silly at times" I said chuckling nervously "hmm...how's school" father asked as he guided me to the couch "u-um school is going great...I'm making all A's-" "you better" mother scolded I shakily nodded my head and continued talking "u-u-um....I-I've been hanging around J-James..." I choked out, I could practically feel my father's glare and my mother's scoff "what did I tell you about that boy" father asked his voice growing deep "he's my friend!" "He's a gay!" Yelled my father as he slapped me across the face "don't you ever yell at me again!! I am your father and I told about hanging out with those fags!!" He yelled as I held my hand to my cheek still in disbelief "now you listen hear, if I ever hear that you're hanging out with fags then I will personally teach you a lesson!! Got it!!" He yelled as he held my by the collar of my shirt "y-yes sir" I choked out as he threw me on the ground "good. Now go do something mature for once!! Why don't you go help Lucy with her homework!!" He yelled as I quickly got up and ran upstairs to Lucy's room. I quickly opened her door and closed it behind me and locked it, I slid down the door as tears poured from my eyes. "T-Tommy?" Lucy said as she walked over to me and placed her hand on my shoulder "what's wrong" she asked "n-nothing" I said quietly "do you have homework?" I asked finally looking at her, she shook her head and hugged me. "Tommy what's wrong?, I-I've never seen you cry like this" she said quietly as I hugged her back "was it something mama and papa said?" She asked once more as she pulled away from the hug "I'll tell you later Lucy, but can I stay in here till dinner?" I asked "sure anything for you Tommy" she said smiling brightly "thanks Lucy" I said cracking a small smile but it slowly faded as something dawned on me; I never got to see Alex;

I was sitting in my hospital bed very disappointed that Thomas didn't show, the others were here but the Schuyler's were off on a family trip. I was playing monopoly with Laurens as Laf and Mulligan were talking quietly to themselves and James was currently watching YouTube videos. "Ha! I win!" Laurens yelled as he threw his arms in the air "congratulations" I said with a huff as I grabbed my piece and tossed it in the box "what's wrong with you?" Laurens asked his smile falling slightly "I-It's just Thomas usually comes to the hospital when school is over with but today he didn't show and I guess I'm a little upset" I said slumping my shoulder slightly, I could really call him and my troubles would be over with but I want to see him face to face. Not even a FaceTime call would make it better, I let out another huff as I fell back on my bed "aww someone misses their boyfriend~" Laf cooed as he sat next to me "yeah....wait no!" I said abruptly as I sat up "nope you were right the fist time" Laf said with a chuckle, I groaned as I laid back down "do you know why he didn't show?" Mulligan asked "no" I mumbled "why don't you call him" James said "I want to see him face to face not face to....phone screen!" I said matter of factly "ok so someone REALLY misses their boyfriend" Laurens mumbled "he's not my boyfriend and of course I miss him!" I shouted irritated "someone is cracky" Laf said as he poked my side which caused me to whine.

I took out my phone and created a group chat with me, Laf, Mulligan, James, and Thomas

Macaronifucker: ahh!! What is it

Hot pants: where are you??

I'msick: Alex is disappointed that you didn't come to the hospital

Largebaguette: you hurt my son! Now I must hurt you!

Macaronifucker: Laf calm down, can I please explain...

I'msick: you got 3 minutes. Go

Macaronifucker: .....it's my parents....

Macaronifucker: yea....I'm perfectly fine 🙃 and there's no need for that Laf

I'msick: are you sure?

Macaronifucker: totally. You guys don't have to worry, tell Alex I'll visit him Tomorrow and that I'm sorry for not showing today

Iliketurtles: ok we'll believe you for now

Hotpants: yeah for now 🤨

I sat my phone down and looked up at Alex who was looking at us with a confused expression "what?" I asked "are you guys ok?" Alex asked confused "oh yeah. We were just texting Thomas about why he didn't show turns out his parents were home and he couldn't come" James explained "why?" Alex asked we all looked at each other, Laf let out a sigh and looks at Alex "Alex, Thomas' parents are homophobic..." Laf said quietly while Alex looked at him in shook "r-really" Alex asked "yup, they literally didn't want me to hang around Thomas because they found out I was gay. If they find out Thomas is bisexual then I don't know what could happen to him" James said with a shrug "whatever happens to him can't be good, we all know how short tempered Thomas' dad is" Mulligan said with his arms crossed "this is a lot for me to take in" Alex mumbled as he held his head in his hand "you're only hearing it from our side of the story....you need to hear Thomas' side" I said as I got up James following behind me "we'll see you tomorrow lex" Mulligan said as he got up also "au revoir mon ami" Laf said as he followed Mulligan out.

Now it's just me by myself, I laid back on my bed taking in all the information I was just told; Thomas' parents are homophobic...; that was the only thought on my head as I drifted off to sleep.
