Aiden
I watched Tristan pull out of our driveway with Nate in the passenger seat. He met my eyes and I smiled at him. His eyes darted away just as fast but as he pulled his hood snug over his head, he gently smiled back. A rare expression on his face, that I couldn't get enough of. I wondered why it took so much to see that smile. What made it fail to appear; why he was crying this morning. The thought of Nate shedding any tear made my chest feel heavy.
And I didn't even know him that well.
All this time, he had simply been someone I've admired from afar.
I wanted to admire him a little closer.
I went back into the house after keeping an eye on him for a couple of seconds longer. Caleb was sitting in the living room and he took one look at me. "Do you really think he likes you like that?"
"He does." I collapsed onto the couch and pulled out my phone, texting something I had forgotten to ask him. "Has to be some reason we are the way we are."
Any homework? - Me
"Tristan seems to think that too...hey, Valentine's Day is coming up-I want to get him something but I have no idea what." My eyes drifted from my phone to him, he was anxiously biting his lips. "Since when do you care about Valentine's Day?"
"Well...Tristan's kinda into it..." I laughed, Caleb was the kind of person to not give a shit about how long he's been dating someone until it's been a year. Valentine's Day was just a day to him, usually. "Well if you're not gonna help me, I'll just ask Nate. What are your plans, you usually go all out? Do you think Nate's going to agree to anything?""I don't know. We'll see what happens in the next three weeks. I was thinking maybe doing something almost date-like, but not so much that he freaks out or something. If you don't come up with anything for Tristan by then, then we can make it some kind of double date thing. Tristan could force Nate into it."
"Why don't you let him do what he wants? No forcing."
"Just a couple of hours ago, I let him do what he wanted and he hugged me. On his own. I didn't initiate it. I think the forcing is actually earning me progress." Just then, my phone buzzed, I drew my attention to the messages back from Nate.
I didn't get a chance to see what hw to give you, Mr. Let'sNotTalkAboutAlgebra. - Nate
So instead, you have to come over tmr morning for it, slacker. - Nate
I raised an eyebrow and an idea came to mind.
So that's it? I take my hw and leave ?? - Me
He took a moment to respond, but he managed to.
Stay. - Nate
I smiled. A week ago he would've said yes. I probably would've been in a shit mood for the rest of today if he had said yes. But no, he told me to stay. The next morning came slow. The whole night, there was practically nothing to do and I was restless. But as soon as my alarm for nine thirty rang, I jumped out of bed, smacked the sleep out of my face, and jumped in the shower. I went for something comfortable; joggers and a lengthy t-shirt. But I also want to look cute and extra good for N.A.B, so I went colorful with blue joggers to match my eyes and a shirt with one of his favorite bands on it, Queen.
