"Well, I think I got my answer, Preeta. I get it."

"I'm leaving now. But, thank you for everything."

What. The. Actual. Hell?

"KARAN MAHESH LUTHRA, COME BACK RIGHT HERE!" I yelled helplessly, even though I know he left me behind here, in tears. Why won't this guy even hear me out for a moment. I couldn't even process what we had told me and without giving me few minutes to tell him an answer. I put my face in between my palms and sobbed. After calming myself – I picked my mobile from the bench and dialed Karan's number.

"the number you are trying is currently switched off or out of coverage. please try later."

After trying his number for five times – I gave up. I dialed mum's number and luckily she lift it in three rings. I sighed deeply as I heard her voice.

"Preeta?"

"Yeah, Mum. It's me―I-I just wanted to ask you something? Are you free now?" I asked, damping my lips.

"Yes, I'm free right now," she told me and I bit my lip before asking her. I hope she won't freak out when I tell her the news.

"Ma, where's Manjadeer uncle, now? Is he still in California?"

"Yeah, I just spoke to him few hours earlier," she told and I squirmed, "he told me he'll be back in the city after few days. He asked about you; well, you know what he always asks."

I rolled my eyes. "Of course, when will I marry his son, Kuljadeer? Ma, tell him it's impossible―because, I already have an daughter and I'm not intrested in marraige, right now."

She laughed. "Okay, when are you coming back? I miss you and Amyra. Your Papa is always asking about her. It's been ten days without that crazy girl."

I sighed, biting my lower lip. "About that―Mum, I need your help."

▬▬▬▬▬

After talking with my mother, I immediately rushed to my room. Lucy was reading a book – whilst, both the kids were watching some tv shows on their Ipads and I went directly to Lucy. She threw a flashy grin at me.

"Hey, Preeta, you're early," she told pointing at me.

"About that, Lucy, I need a favour from you." I said and her facial expressions changed. Happy to confused.

"What kind of favour, Preeta?" She asked and I made her sit on the chair – and I opposite to her.

"Lucy, umm, actually I've a important thing right now to do and I can't take these kids to that place. I've called my mum to come here and take these kids back to my place, okay? I need an supervision on these both and according to me, you're the best. She'll be here by―" I looked at my watch, then at Lucy, "―seven thrity or something, like that. Is it okay with you? I'm really sorry for this interruption in your time." I told her, nervousness peeking through in my body like an venom.

She just laughed. "Come on, Preeta. It's actually fine with me. No need to apologise―for something which―isn't your fault, Preeta. I'm super happy to look after them. I've quite grown close to them after our two to three times, looking after them. You be safe and hope you achieve the thing you want to." She said with so much concern and affection which made me smile. I got up from the chair – so does she and hugs her.

"Thank you," I told her and she just patted my back. I went to Amyra and Ayaan who just witnessed the act. I smiled at them and ruffled their hair – earning a groan from them.

"Look, kids, I've got a huge thing in front of me, alright? I've to go and fetch someone who's stubborn," I told them and they laughed, "So, Amyra and Ayaan―my mom is coming to pick you both and take you to London. I'll be there soon in two days."

"But mumma―"

"No buts, Amyra Lu―Arora!" I quickly corrected the surname or the questions will be raised.

"Ayaan," I turned towards him, "Ayaan, listen, you'll be dropped in your house, alright? You don't worry."

Both nodded and I kissed both of their foreheads before leaving the room – to go find that son of Rakhi Luthra.

 ▬▬▬▬▬

"KARAN!" I yelled as I stopped the familiar jet-black hair bastard in the crowd, wearing a red jacket. He turned back and his eyes widened. I rolled my eyes at him and moved forward.

It's my turn to get my guy.

He stood fixed in his place – the crowd moving past us, everything seemed to blur as our eyes met. It was just me and him. Nothing else mattered. I took a step forward. So does he. It took me five steps to reach him and oh, boy, I finally did. He didn't look happy. He didn't amused. He didn't look sad. He looked tense. He looked paranoid – like something dangerous is going to take place.

"Karan?"

"Yes?" I brought him out of his trance.

"Karan, look―"

"There's nothing to talk, Preeta. You gave me your answer and I'm leaving as I told you. Now, leave me―"

I slapped him. Hard.

"WILL YOU JUST FUCKING HEAR ME OUT? I swear to god, if you don't listen to me―I will defenstrate you out of the window, now. What do you think of yourself, huh? You say me the things about why you left me back there and asks me the question right after, Karan. What do you think I can answer. I need time to process the things happened, alright? But, then―the royal highness couldn't even wait for few minutes to hear my answer―"

"But I thought―" I cut him off.

"Fuck what you thought, Karan! Hear me out first. My feelings towards you had always been clear. In the first―you could always find the love for you and in the last few years, you could only see the―raging hate towards you and you always had a way of knowing other's feelings even before they themselves know it. And now―past few ten days, you couldn't even see me in the eyes, eh? You couldn't see the emotions and feelings I had stored for you.

You didn't even try to find out, because at the some point of time―you give up! And I don't want you to give up on me, Karan. I want you to understand that, I'm hard to manage, I whine all the time, I have crazy hormones and we always fight. And maybe, that's what defines us. Our fights define us―we're strong. Maybe, that's why I love you, Karan. I love you for having my back those two years. I love you for everything."

I sighed and looked at him to find tears in his eyes. He is crying. He let out a whimper, before pulling me into a bear hug and I instantly melt into his warm and cozy hug. "I love you," I whispered.

"I love you―"

Before he could finish, he was on the ground – sprawled, blood oozing out of his stomach.

He was gunshot.
