"This is just wonderful..." Korekiyo murmured, as he stared down at his cupped hand. Inside it were slight speckles of blood, but most importantly green flower petals. He sighed, placing the petals in the trash and proceeding to wash the blood off his hands.

"My dearest sister...I must tell him," he said, staring into the mirror before him. "I must tell him, or I am afraid I will perish..."

"No." She replied, yet again speaking through Korekiyo's body. "I am your true love, yes? Therefore, I'm afraid you cannot share this information with Gokuhara, my dear."

"But..." Korekiyo sighed, closing his eyes. "I understand." He lifted his mask, exiting the bathroom and into his room. Glancing around, he let out a long breath as the Ultimate Anthropologist laid down on his comfortable bed. Staring up at the ceiling, Korekiyo let out a feeble cough, though no flowers come out this time. Turning on to his side, the student closed his eyes and soon drifted off into sleep.

The next morning, Korekiyo woke up with a start, sweat gathering on his forehead. He felt something rise in his throat, so he rushed to the sink right as he began coughing. After maybe 20 seconds, he let out a few more miserable coughs before staring at the mess he had made. Korekiyo knew just by looking that he was reaching the end of his Hanahaki-infected life. Rushing out of the bathroom, the Ultimate Anthropologist grabbed a pen and a piece of paper as he began to pour out his feelings. Korekiyo planned to go up to Gonta in the taller male's usual walk around the courtyard and hand him the letter. If Gonta didn't feel the same way, so be it. He just wanted to Ultimate Entomologist to know his feelings before Korekiyo passed away.

"Korekiyo...what are you doing?" His sister questioned, panic evident in her voice.

"I am reaching the end of my life. I would like Gonta to know how I feel before my inevitable end," Korekiyo explained.

"I...I suppose that is reasonable enough. But you should be happy—you'll be able to be with me again, won't you?"

The boy just nodded, and nobody spoke another word. Grabbing his letter, he let out another cough before standing up and walking out the door of his dorm. As Korekiyo made his way over to the courtyard, the information he had gathered from his book of disease myths lurked in the back of his mind.

"Hanahaki Disease" is a disease given to people suffering from unrequited love. The victims will cough up flower petals that have gathered in their lungs. There are three possible outcomes to this sickness. The victim could possibly confess and have their feelings denied, which will speed up the process tenfold. The flowers will fill up their lungs and they will soon suffocate to death. Another possibility is to have the flowers surgically removed, but the feelings will disappear along with the sickness. The most preferred cure is to have the feelings eventually returned, which will cut off the disease entirely.

"If only we had an Ultimate Surgeon..." Korekiyo mumbled. "Oh well. Let's hope that Gonta will return my feelings..." As if on cue, when the boy looked up, he saw Gonta standing a few feet away from him. Gathering up his courage, Korekiyo approached the other male.

"Gokuhara," he announced. Said boy turned around, a smile growing on his face.

"Hello, Korekiyo! Can Gonta help with anything?"

The Ultimate Anthropologist was glad he was wearing his mask, or else Gonta would notice how much he was blushing.

"I, erm, made this for you," Korekiyo murmured, handing Gonta the letter. The latter stared at the letter for a few seconds before looking back up at Korekiyo.

"I'm sorry, but...Gonta no can read."

God, I'm an idiot... Korekiyo thought. "Well, I suppose I can just read it to you...aloud..." He took a deep breath and began to read.

"I'm afraid I won't be able to give this to you in time. I am suffering from Hanahaki disease, a disease cause by unrequited love. Unrequited love for you. I already know you don't love me back, or else I wouldn't be suffering from this. Just know that I love you from the bottom of my heart, and that will never change, no matter what you do or say. You are everything to me, my dearest Gonta."

"K-Korekiyo...?" Gonta murmured. He tried to process what Korekiyo was saying, but all he could come up with...was that the Ultimate Anthropologist was in love with Gonta.

Korekiyo stared at Gonta, await the taller boy's response. What he didn't expect was for the Ultimate Entomologist to wrap his arms around the smaller male in a fierce hug. Korekiyo gently hugged back, his face a deep shade of red. He felt content, until he heard soft sniffling coming from Gonta. Pulling away, he looked the boy in the eyes.

"Gonta...Gonta sorry f-for making Kiyo sick," Gonta murmured, tears pricking at the edge of his eyes. Korekiyo reaches up and placed his hand on Gonta's cheek, causing the latter's face to flush.

"Do not apologize. I'll be alri-"

"And to make up for that, Gonta will love Kiyo the best he can!" Gonta announced.

"Gonta..." Korekiyo murmured in shock. The Ultimate Entomologist reached down and kissed Korekiyo's forehead.

"Gonta will protect you. It is promise."
