Suga: Good morning capt'n!
Daichi blinks groggily at his phone. All his muscles are on fire from the match against Shiratorizawa the day before, and he's pretty sure he woke up in the middle the night to stretch out a cramping calf.
The time on his lock screen flashes 11:24. He's slept for nearly twelve hours. He groans as he massages the dull ache on his cheek.
Daichi: Ugh, I just woke. Sorry Suga, I'll meet you at the usual bus stop in 30 mins?
Suga: Ho ho, look out your window!
What? Daichi draws the blinds of his curtains, squinting as the rays of the Saturday afternoon sun bathe the room.
The street is empty, apart from a kid on a tricycle, ploughing through the pavement on his three-wheeler with too much enthusiasm.
Daichi: I don't get it, am I supposed to be seeing something?
Suga: Nope, but I got you to open the blinds didn't I? Rise and shine, 12pm at the bus stop!
Daichi finds himself smiling at his phone. Oh god, is he going on a date with Suga? Come to think of it, they've never gone anywhere alone before, outside of school and volleyball practice.
It is 12:13 when Daichi makes it to the bus stop. Suga is already there, leaning against the paneling.
"HEY!" Suga karate-chops him in the head. "You're late," he frowns as he gives Daichi's face a once-over, turning it such that the bruised side faces him. "The bruise is easing up eh?"
Daichi nods. "Sorry Suga. My legs felt like lead this morning. They still do, actually."
The bus arrives and they hop on. Daichi sits beside Suga in silence, not knowing what to say. He notices how Suga's silver locks glint in the afternoon sun, some strands turning almost white, some chrome. He notices the mole on the corner of Suga's eye, and how his nose is perfectly sharp.
Cute.
"Oh, I got us pork buns!" Suga lifts a plastic bag. "They were supposed to be for breakfast, but I guess it's already lunch time."
"We can still have them for lunch." Daichi takes the bag from Suga. "What the - how many did you buy?
"Twelve!" Suga grins. There are those half moon eyes again. "You eat a lot, Daichi," the setter says pointedly, with no hint of disdain, nor, much to Daichi's chagrin, endearment. Just, matter-of-factly, as if he were pointing out something so obvious as the fact that the sky is blue.
Daichi narrows his eyes. "Probably best to eat them after the dentist..."
The visit to the dentist was mostly uneventful. Daichi just sat in the chair, squeezed his eyes closed, and tried not to focus on the poking, and the prodding, and the screeching of whatever monstrosity the dentist was wielding in his hand against his teeth.
He walks out of the clinic to find Mr Refreshing playing with a kid in the waiting area. Suga is setting a balloon into the air, encouraging the four year old to spike.
"Daichi!" Suga waves. "How was it?"
"Nuthin' much. I lost a molar, can't really do much about that unless I get an implant in... I also chipped another tooth but he's fixed that." Daichi smiles at the kid as he approaches.
The boy's eyes widen as he tugs on Suga's shirt. "Ojiisan,"
Suga's face is immediately grief-stricken. "O-o-ojiisan...?" he sputters under his breath.
