Suga and Daichi walk home wordlessly, the former abashedly daring to slip his hands into his partner's midway through. Instead of stopping when they reached Daichi's door, he'd continued to walk with Suga. Neither of them say a word till they were in front of Suga's house.
"So..." Daichi starts, staring into his setter's eyes, which are still puffy from the torrential sobs that had happened just less than an hour ago.
"So..." Suga continues. "I guess we're boyfriends now?"
Daichi smiles gently. "I guess."
"Goodnight, boyfriend,' Suga squeezes Daichi's hand, as he turns away to enter his home.
Daichi yanks Suga back to plant another kiss onto his forehead, inhaling the scent of the setter's shampoo as he nuzzles his nose into the silver locks. "Goodnight, boyfriend."
Suga watches Daichi as he turns to leave, admiring how broad the captain's back looked in the black Karasuno Volleyball Club jacket. With a sigh, he enters his own home, announcing "Tadaima!" as he steps in.
"Okaeri!" His mom shouts back. "Why're you back so late? Have you eaten dinner?"
"Extra practice, I've had dinner!" Suga lies, not wanting to engage his mom in conversation. There are simply too many things to process and he needs to be alone. Plus, he is smiling uncontrollably to himself, and is definitely not ready to answer any questions his parents may have regarding his day, volleyball practice, or why he's smiling like a goon. He hastily grabs a change of clothes, enters the shower and closes the door behind him.
Omg omg omg omg omg omg omg. WHAT IN THE WORLD JUST HAPPENED?!
No amount of face-slapping would rid the silly grin off Suga's face. Just a few hours ago he had been convinced that Daichi was straight, and definitely going to end up with Michimiya, but what is this turn of events?
Suga ruminates over his relationship dynamic with Daichi and how it has evolved over the past 3 years throughout his shower. By the time he was done, the initial euphoria had worn into apprehension.
Did he even like Daichi that way? He must've; to feel that amount of jealousy when he thought Daichi would accept Michimiya's confession for real. Subconsciously he must've been in love with Daichi for a long time coming. Did Daichi really like him that way, then? Or was he just sorry for Suga after seeing him so vulnerable?
As he steps out of the bathroom, his phone vibrates with a message.
"BOKEH!"
Suga internally sighs at his unfortunate text tone, which is a voice recording of Kageyama admonishing Hinata, lovingly recorded by Noya, who subsequently made it everyone's text message tone. For the hundredth time, he makes a mental note to change it to something more normal later.
Daichi: Stop thinking about things so much and go to bed. See you in the morning.
Suga climbs into bed and buries his head under his sheets.
"I love you."
He said it. Daichi actually said those three words.
Suga piles a pillow above his face, on top of the mountain of scrunched up blanket already there, wanting to bury his fiercely vermillion blush from the world. He isn't ready to respond to that intense a profession of love yet, and he wonders how those worded had escaped the captains lips so easily. The guilt for having kissed Daichi back hits him. God, I kissed him back, thrice. Then comes the guilt for holding Daichi's hand on their walk back home. What was he thinking?
