Bulimia doesn't affect guys. And guys don't diet. That's according to Sean Roemer, Katy's best friend and fellow diver on Franklin High School's varsity team. He admits you do what you have to do, sometimes, to make weight for a meet. But he doesn't think he has a problem. Even as Katy tries to get him to acknowledge his denial, she can't see the danger she puts herself in. The only things Katy cares about in the world are diving and her friendship with Sean. If she doesn't figure out what's going on soon, she could lose everything.

Review:

Eating disorders are a serious issue. And before I move on, I just want to offer my support to anyone who has suffered one, or knows somebody who did. You all have support; you all have help if you need it. Talk to someone; there are people who can help you move forward, but only if you take the first step. So take that step - be brave and ask for help. It's alright to be weak; we all are. You show you strength by admitting you have a problem and asking for help, and that's more than most people can do.

So, as is my trend, I like this book because it deals in real life issues, and it exists in the real world. Katy is so focused on trying to solve her friend's problems that she can't see the ones she has herself. I find that beautiful - she cares so much about Sean. But what everyone should take away from the story is that you need to care about yourself. We all have high hopes and towering dreams; but you mustn't lose yourself trying to reach them.

This book shows friendship as something more precious than life - a friend who will tell you that you need help, even though she needs it herself, simply because she needs you to be there in her life. Katy and Sean are inspirational - I hope every single one of you has a friendship like theirs.

Please do read this book, and spread the awareness about eating disorders. It's not just or always about insecurity. This is real.
