The moment I was completely aware and in control of my body, my wolf body, I backed off in an instant panic. I had just attacked my mate, my other half. My mind was in a panic seeing him on the floor, blood now pouring out his neck due to a bite mark that shouldn't have been there. Why did I bite Red? Why wasn't I able to stop myself when I saw that it was him and not one of the vampires?

I force myself to push Rafe back further into my mind, taking a stronger control over myself, not wanting that to happen again. I needed to get better control over myself, I can't allow myself to hurt Red like that again, regardless of the fact of this situation was an accident. I hurt my mate, that should have never happened. Now my mate was bleeding on the floor, passed out.

"Rafe!!" Eli, my beta, yelled throughout the large entry hall. My head snapped towards him. The growling and yelling from myself and Eli must have panicked my fellow pack members because moments later, grown men in their night attire came rushing into the pack house, glancing around in a panic looking for the cause of all the ruckus and upon seeing the vampires, many took protective and defensive stances. Our entire lives we have been taught that vampires are the enemies and it wasn't common to have multiple just standing on the stairs of the pack house.

It was simply a defensive thing, the thing between werewolves and vampires. It's a thing, a situation, that has been hanging over the two supernatural groups for decades. It's like cats and dogs. They fight, they harm each other, they get defensive. We have always been enemies. My wolf was simply thinking about the pack, thinking about protecting the pack from our biggest enemy. Thinking about protecting our mate. Vampires have been known to harm our youth, killing the innocent, the ones that can't defend for themselves. Attacking our children, our omegas, our women. I know we have attacked them as well, but it isn't like we knew any better. I must admit, we didn't know much about vampires but what we did know wasn't good. We knew to be afraid of the things you can't and don't understand.

Vampires are the definition of the things that you should be afraid of.

I didn't even notice that Red was even in the room at first, much like I didn't really know that vampires were there. I don't understand how they were able to be invisible all I know is I had been able to smell the distinctive smell of a vampire, the smell of blood and death. The smell of vampires wasn't strong but once you got a sniff of it, it never went away. That scent had covered up my mates, scarily. When the vampires slowly became visible, the smell of my mate had increased ten-fold. My head had snapped over to where I was smelling my mate, and there he was. Red was just standing there, and behind my mate, was a smaller vampire who Red stood in front of protectively.

Suddenly it wasn't just protecting my pack as the first thought had been. It turned to protect my mate, to protect my mate from the threat, from the vampires. Rafe wanted the vampires gone, as far away from my mate. At the moment my mate's safety was all that mattered as he currently was the only one in danger.

I growled at the vampires, the ones on the staircase and the one that was hiding behind my mate like a human shield. My wolf saw the vampires as the biggest threat around at the moment.

In a snap, I was biting on my mate's neck. My eyes widened drastically, as I backed off in a quick panic. I whimpered when my mate made a noise of pain.

I panicked quietly, shifting my weight from one paw to another as my panic got worse and worse slowly. My eyes continued to dart between Eli, the vampires, and my bleeding mate. It only made it worse when I constantly reminded myself that the small teeth marks on my mate's skin was caused by me. Guilt and panic were all I was able to feel at that exact moment.

I almost growled as the vampires gathered around my mate but I held it back, especially when the smaller one, the one that my mate had been hiding behind his back, that one was the only one looking heavily beaten, having bruises on his body while the rest looked fine. It made me wonder what had happened to the vampire, the bruised one. Why would the vampires send one of the harmed ones into a wolf pack?

They were panicking over my mate's body, before one of them, the one that smelt the most like my mate, the bruised one, looked up from my mate's unconscious body, glaring at me and Eli, who had come to stand next to my wolf form. Tears were falling down the bruised ones check. I glanced back over at Eli, who had a dazed look on his face, completely unfocused from his environment and the situation going on around him. I could tell that he was mind linking someone, hopefully, the pack doctor.

"Why would you do that?!" The smallest screamed, tears falling from his face. The boy looked like he was about to attack me before he was suddenly grabbed by one of the older, stopping him from getting any closer to us than he already was. I'm glad the older one grabbed him because I would have let the small vampire kill me, he was completely right. Why WOULD I do that? Attack my mate? I let out a whimper, the entire thing making my head spin. I wanted to comfort my unconscious mate but I knew the vampires wouldn't let me anywhere near him right now. My wolf was internally whimpering non-stop.

I knew better than to shift to my human form, knowing my wolf would most-definitely go into a huge panic. I might have pushed my wolf further back but he felt comforted being in his form since he was more aware in it. Since he could protect Red better being in his form. It took around one more minute before the pack doctor rushed into the room with his daughter falling suit. I knew his daughter only as a witch, that was the only way you could describe her, she did things that didn't seem possible, but what can I say? I'm a werewolf, something that most people thought only existed inside of books or movies. The kind of supernatural crap that I'm talking about is her disappear from one room to be in another, making things lift without touching them . . . I didn't know the witch very well. She was born five years prior to me, and when I was younger the thought that she was a girl made all of us male wolves not want anything to do with her.

I glance over at my mate. He had been invisible, all the vampires had been but he's . . . human right? Was one of the vampires the reason they were all invisible? I don't want to think that my mate has anything to do with it but that would make sense. I don't know anymore. I couldn't explain what had happened, maybe the witch could for me. She probably knew beforehand, she knew stuff like that.

The pack doctor hesitated when he sees the many vampires surrounding my mate, and I noticed something. Two of the few vampires had this look on their eyes, not have taken their eyes off of my mate since his blood began to pool. It took me a couple of seconds to recognize what exactly that look meant and I went defensive almost instantly.

Blood lust. I knew that certain blood types caused this in certain vampires who weakly fall under drops of blood spell but sense that blood type is so rare nowadays, it was almost impossible to find someone with that particular blood type. Who would have imagined that my mate was that type? I might not know a lot about vampires but I knew about blood lust, I knew how dangerous it could be if it wasn't controlled and stopped.

The other few vampires hissed at the doctor before they noticed to the two who were staring red-eyed towards my mate, looking at him as if they were starving which I'm pretty sure they are not. I don't know how vampires managed to stay fed considering if my pack members saw them out in public they would call for back up and attack.

While the doctor tried to examine and patch up my mate on the floor, the vampires began to struggle with keeping their fellow vampires away from Red. It was as if they were fighting a battle that they weren't going to win, slowly losing. I had seen the effects of blood lust before, they go crazy, almost as if they were possessed by the urge to bite into whoever's blood was creating the scent that to them must have smelt amazing. Any type of blood smelt amazing to vampires. Based on the reactions of the vampires, they had never smelt Red's blood before and right before one of them could get close to Red, I jump protectively over my mate, and let out a growl.
