RTTE S4E2

Today was the day. After years of crushing on the adorable Viking Tuffnut, you were finally going to tell him how you felt. It was something you'd been wanting to do for a while. However you were incredibly nervous, resulting in a lot of procrastinating. But you told yourself, no more. Today was the day.

After a short, unexpected visit from the twins' cousin, Gruffnut, you went to find Tuff. "Hey," you greeted the riders, poking your head through the entrance of the clubhouse. You surveyed the room; no Tuffnut in sight. "Have any of you seen Tuff?" You asked in a more shy voice. 

Fishlegs answered with a friendly smile, "pretty sure I saw him headed to the stables."

"Okay, thanks!" You shouted before rushing off. Once you made it to the stables, you slowed your pace to seem casual. Upon entering, you spotted Tuff feeding Barf and Belch. Your heart leapt.

"Early dinner for Barf and Belch, huh?" You observed, seeing that it was only a few hours afternoon.

Tuffnut jumped in start, whipping around to see you walking his way. "What? Oh, uh, yeah," he agreed, "well, more like a, um..afternoon snack."

You smiled in amusement and forced your courage. You took the basket of fish out of Tuff's hands and set it to the side gently. Lacing your fingers with his, you readied yourself to confess.

Tuff already looked completely shocked, eyebrows raised at the action of you taking his hand. "Listen, Tuff," you began, "I..I really like you." And there it was; no going back now. "I have for a while," you went on with a blushing smile, "you're so crazy and reckless, but you're also funny and caring...I just.....yeah."

You looked up into Tuff's eyes, hoping to see love in them. But his eyes were wide in discomfort. An awkward tension filled the air, triggering you to release his hand, your smile fading. "O-oh, uh..well you see," he began, a stuttering mess, "I don't--well, I-I'm not--you don't...." He trailed off for a moment. But when he saw your eyes begin to water, he abandoned ship, yelling, "uh, I have to go, um, do something!" The he bolted out of the stables.

After the shock, you felt your eyes sting with tears. It wasn't so upsetting that he'd rejected you; you had prepared yourself for that. But the way he just ran off, as if he didn't want anything to do with you, that hurt.

But you didn't want anyone to see you crying. So you raced to Obsidian's stable, your black whispering death. You opened up her door and hugged her face, careful to avoid her spines. "Come on, girl," you told her with a sniffle, "let's go to our spot."

Knowing exactly what that meant, Obsidian lowered her neck and allowed you to climb on. Then she began to fly, tail spiraling with speed as the two of you erupted out of the stables' entrance. The whispering death flew right behind the outpost to an entrance of tunnels that she'd made. She flew in until no daylight could be seen.

There, finally alone, you let the tears spill. Obsidian slithered around you, comforting you in the darkness.

You weren't sure how long you'd been in Obsidian's tunnels with her. A few stray fireworms scurried about, their faint glows giving you the ability to see a familiar silhouette at then end of the tunnel. Then, you heard a voice call, "(Y/n)? Are you down here? I need to talk to you, it's important!"

Tuffnut.

Your heart clenched as you hurried to wipe away your tears. "I-I'm here," you shouted, your voice echoing.

Within seconds, Tuffnut was at your side, kneeling and lifting your face to look at him. His eyes were full of worry and concern. "Have you been crying?" He asked in a heartbroken voice. He then brought you into a firm, emotional hug.

"Tuff..?" You spoke questioningly unsure why he was suddenly acting so differently from before.

"It wasn't me," he told you, still hugging you, "it was Gruffnut. He was pretending to be me so that he could steal one of our dragons."

You released Tuff and gave him a bizzare look. "What?!" You asked in shock. "I feel like I missed a lot."

"Oh yeah, you definitely did," Tuffnut confirmed, then took your hand. "But we can talk about that later," he stated in a softer tone. "(Y/n), Gruffnut told me what you said....and I like you, too. A lot."

Your heart melted. "You do?" You asked nervously, a smile spreading across your face.

Tuffnut took you face in his hands again, gently wiping the rest of your tears away. He smiled softly and answered, "totally."

"And then I wacked him with the flight suit!" Tuffnut explained eagerly before re-enacting the scene to give you a proper visual.

You laughed as he did so. After finding you in Obsidian's tunnels, Tuff brought you back to the clubhouse. Now, all of the riders were enjoying dinner while Tuff revelled in his glory.

"It sounds like you really taught him a lesson," you observed as Tuff finished his story.

"Sure did," Tuff agreed proudly, casually putting his arm around you.

Seeing this, Astrid raised her eyebrows and gave Hiccup a crooked grin. Hiccup's eyes widened a for a split second before clearing his throat and adding suggestively, "that's right, no one messes with our dragons. And no one gets away with making my sister cry."

"Couldn't have said it better myself, H," Tuff agreed.

"And I mean, no one," Hiccup emphasized, "just for future reference."

But Tuff still wasn't getting the picture. "One hundred percent...no more percents, to be had."

Your face went red as now everyone was looking at you with Tuffnut. "Hiccup," you whined, begging him to stop.

Your brother smiled crookedly and sighed, leaning back in his seat. Astrid muttered to him in amusement, "at least he agrees that no one can hurt (Y/n)." This made Hiccup chuckle.

You sighed in relief and stood from the table. "I'm gonna get an early night in," you announced.

A chorus of 'goodnight's rang through the room. But before you left, you leaned over Tuff's shoulder to plant a kiss on his cheek. Then, you were gone, leaving him in a daze of bliss.
