But the Potions challenge, I went to Pottermore to see the size of the bottles and I figured the riddle out myself! By MYSELF, look at that! And then I was only eleven ... Dedicated to @AliceBarnes, thanks for the support!

And by the way, I'm getting glasses, guys. On Friday, I'll have my glasses ... At least then I'll be able to read things written on the board at school ...

Chapter 11 | past fluffy

A week later, Caitlyn already knew all the details about the Forbidden Forest, detention and -- Lord Voldemort. When Harry first said that name, she had no idea who that was. Then she realized that was You-Know-Who's name. He told her all about Professor Snape working for him and him being a ghost -- You-Know-Who, not Snape -- and that the Philosopher's Stone was for him.

She wondered how she could sleep knowing You-Know-Who could walk in a bedroom while she was a sleep, then she reached the conclusion he couldn't, simply because boys couldn't go in the girl's dormitories for obvious motives. But she also reached the point where she knew Voldemort could simply make an advance spell to get in.

Caitlyn also didn't know how Snape could possibly be his follower, still. When she and Snape first met during summer in the orphanage and he took her to Diagon Alley, Snape talked of Bellatrix Lestrange, who was still a puzzle to Caitlyn, very badly. It was obvious that he despised You-Know-Who. He could have been pretending but she was almost sure he wasn't. Somehow and sometimes, she saw right through him.

In every Defence Against the Dark Arts class she had observed Quirrell to see if he was going to back down and help Snape but the Stone hadn't gone missing yet. Quirrell looked thinner, sicker, but not less brave. He actually seemed to stutter less, if that was even possible. He looked more confident, as if Snape threatening him was a good thing.

The good part was, not even a professor knew of Caitlyn, Harry, Ron and Hermione's discoveries and acknowledge of the Philosopher's Stone. All was well. They had started to plot plans about how to stop Snape if he ever went to get the Stone -- they would improve. That was Ron's plan, which Harry and Caitlyn deeply supported, since they had no idea how to stop him. As for Hermione, she thought of strategies that would work if they were all Dumbledore.

One DADA class, after class, actually, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, Caitlyn was leaving the classroom alone, since Draco and the girls had gone already to the common room -- it was the last class of the day. Then, one step outside the door, she heard Quirrell muttering, "It's time. I'll get the Stone now, Master. I'm on my way."

Caitlyn hid behind a column in the corridor as Quirrell stormed out of the room. Millions of questions filled her mind: why was Quirrell speaking to himself and calling something master? Was he talking to You-Know-Who? Had he turned to Snape? Was he getting the Stone at that precise moment? Where were Harry, Ron and Hermione when you needed them?

In class. They were having Herbology -- Professor Sprout hated Caitlyn for some reason. She'd never let her take Harry, Ron and Hermione off class without a good excuse. She could say Quirrell wanted to speak to them, but what if she didn't buy it? What if she said he'd speak to them after class? Maybe telling that Dumbledore wanted to ... but she then remembered Dumbledore had gotten an owl from the Ministry of Magic saying there was an imergecy and that he wasn't at school.

There wasn't time. Thinking and planning was making her lose plenty of time. She did have to go and ask Hagrid how to get past Fluffy. But he would never tell her. Even if she told him what she had heard, he would tell her she was crazy and to forget about it. But she couldn't -- she was panicking, standing as still as a rock on the corridor.
