Chapter 36: Wedding Part 2

Evelyn's POV

Once we pull up to the venue Happy escorts Peggy to her seat while the ladies line up. I stand last as the men line up with their partners softly talking till we hear the music start. I nervously twirl my flowers and take a deep breath,telling myself to calm down. It's just Steve. The love of my life,father of my children. I watch as one by one the couples walk down the aisle. After Natasha walks down the aisle I take a deep breath,count to five then walk. I see people rise as I come into view,then my eyes meet his. Suddenly the entire world melts away and it's just Steve and I. I smile as I see Steve look speechless. I get to him and take his hand. I hand my flowers off to Natasha and look into Steves eyes.

"We are gathered here on this beautiful day to witness the union of Steven and Evelyn in holy matrimony. This is a day of great celebration, for a married life - a shared life - is a great blessing. As Steven and Evelyn embark on this journey together they will be able to nurture a love that makes them better versions of themselves. Marriage is a garden we sow with love, and harvest in personal growth." The priest starts then continues" Steven and Evelyn, on your journey together, keep your spouse in the space of highest priority in your heart. The love that you share must be guarded and cherished forever, for it is your most valuable treasure. Always remember these words; Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." he says and every word he says sinks into my heart. Everyone so silent you can hear a pin drop,everyone smiling,but my eyes never leave Steve.

"Steven, repeat after me: Evelyn, you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours." the Priest says.

"Evie, you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours."Steve says as he slides a wedding band on my finger,tears of joy fall down my face. I mouth 'I love you' to him causing a collective aww from the crowd.

I smile"Steve,you are my best friend and everlasting companion. You have brought me the truest happiness I have ever known. I take joy today in committing my life to yours. " I repeat as I slide his wedding band on his finger.

" Steven and Evelyn , today you have stood before these witnesses and declared your intent to commit your lives to each other in marriage. You have made promises to each other and your family. Your road to this moment has not always been smooth, but you continued to fight for one another. I hope you will never forget the fight and perseverance it has taken to get to this moment. And I hope you will never forget the love and joy you feel today, because these are the values that will keep your marriage, family and bond to one another strong. And so, by the power vested in me by the American Marriage Ministries and the State of ,New York I now pronounce you husband and wife. " he says and before he can say any more Steve pulls me into a sweet,passionate kiss as our friends and family cheer for us. It was in this moment,I knew nothing could ever tear Steve and I apart. Or so I thought.
