two (ii.) || syd's second snake sighting

I can't believe I'm late. I was just trying to get a coffee in before my math class. And now I'm late to class- missing the important stuff. 

With my sneakers I stomp down the hallway and almost collide with Bowie. Isn't she in my class- why was she not there? She doesn't even notice at first I have to wave my free hand in front of her face to get her attention.

"Hey watch where you're going." I kindly alerted her. She mumbles something as I began my travels to class again. I guess it's none of my business since we're not friends.

It doesn't take long to get to class. And when I do people are still settling in. I wonder why. Well it's not gonna look like I came late so I guess I had a bit of christmas magic on my side. If I couldn't have Harrison I could get to class on time.

I looked around the classroom as I took my books out of my bag.

"Settle down now kids. We've got some new equations for today." Our teacher says way too brightly and we all sigh.

At lunch I sat with Veronica, Betty, Archie and Kevin. I was going to sit alone like I have been doing since Harrison left but Veronica dragged me to her table. She did say that she wanted us to be friends. 

So here I was eating some weird chicken sandwich and not paying attention to much of anything. They were talking about something that I had no clue about. When we all first sat down and were talking about the black hood I was paying attention. And then after that I began to doze off.

"I know you're happy Syd." Reggie's voice cut through the day dream I was having and made me fumble a bit. He sat across from me with a wide smile.

I looked at him, "Don't cal me Syd. Only my friends call me that and you are not my friend."

"Oh come on. I thought we could put that in the past, let by gones be by gones." There was just something not right with what he was saying. All of a sudden he wants to be friends with me? He wants to stop being childish?

I shook my head. "Listen I can move on from whatever we were fighting about but I'm not about to sing kombaya with you. You can leave now."

He gets up with a pout. "Okay, sorry. I tried though."

I watched him leave and looked at the rest of the table. "What the hell was he on about? Why would I be happy?"

Veronica tried to hide the smile playing on her face. "You didn't hear the announcement? Where you listening to music on full blast?"

"No I wasn't. I was running late. What was the announcement?" I asked her quickly. If Reggie had the nerve to come over here and congratulate me for it it had to be important.

"Southside high is getting shut down. Some of the students are coming here." Archie explained and I stopped eating at his words. So he's coming back? Harrison is coming back to the northside?

"We're not sure if the southsiders we know are coming here though. I'm holding out hope." Betty   hinted at the whole her and Jughead and me and Harrison thing. Well if she could hold out hope then I could definitely do the same.

"Me too Betty. Speaking of I've got to go do something, I'll see you guys." I grabbed my tray and didn't wait for a response from them. 

Basically running out of the cafeteria I place my trash int he garbage and my tray above it. I needed to get to my bag where my phone was. If I could text him if he was coming here then- he had to respond. It's the least he could do. I begin to fast pace to my locker.

"Sydney?" I hear a voice call from behind me. And it takes everything in me to not ignore it and keep walking to my locker. But I knew the voice. It was Kimmy.

I turned around to see her walking my way. 

"Hey what's up?" I blurted.

"I was trying to find you. We've been paired for a project together in science. Do you wanna exchange numbers so we can figure out when we can work on it?"

I nodded my head quickly. "I mean yeah. I just- come with me to my locker real quick. My phones  in there and yeah- come on."

Once again I fast walk to my locker but this time Kimmy is by my side. "I feel like I'm in a movie or something. Why are we walking so fast?" She laughed as we headed down the hallway.

"I need to text someone. It's urgent. A good urgent." I explained as we finally reached my locker.

My hands fiddled with the lock for the combination. And when I finally got it I dived into my bag. My phone was at the top of all the mess anyways so I got it pretty quickly. 

I pulled it out and turned it on and to my surprise there were two messages waiting for me.

'southside high is shutting down and i'm getting transferred back to riverdale high'

'looks like you got your christmas miracle'

I gasped and held the phone close to my chest. The girly giggle that escaped my lips was nothing  I was expecting. I got so lost in the good news that I almost forgot Kimmy was standing next to me still waiting for my number.

"Right, it's xxx-xxxx." I repeated to her and she took down my number. "Sorry about that."

She shook her head. "No worries. I just hope it's from that guy you used to hang out with. You guys were cute together."

With that she left, leaving me perplexed. What was with people and thinking that me and Harrison were dating? I mean before I couldn't see it. We were just best friends. We were peanut butter and jelly. 

But now..

maybe I was starting to see it.
