-THE SUSPENSE

—————

the next two hours were terrifying. jonah hadn't texted back, they were sitting in the classroom. it was dark, everyone was crying. everyone was calling their parents. it was just, horrifying.

it was the most scared zach had ever been, ever. mostly the fact that jonah could be dead right now, terrified him. his best friend, his crush, his...love, wasn't answering his texts.

after the two hour wait, the intercom rang in.

"the gunman has been taken into custody, the police are evacuating the building now."

a sigh of relief was heard from the whole classroom. they all stood up, hugging their friends and crying. it was over, finally.

<<•>>

they walked through the halls in a straight line, police surrounding them, hands on their heads.

they were told to look straight, but zach couldn't help to look at the many, many, limp, dead bodies and puddles of blood laying scattered on the ground.

he looked at them, none of them being jonah. he did see people he recognized though, his agriculture teacher, a girl he's known from elementary school, so many people he grew up with.

they walked outside and were released to their parents, zach looked around searching for his mom, his dad, jonah, anyone he recognized.

he pulled out his phone, calling myta hoping for an answer. she answered and said she was in the parking lot, he walked there, hurriedly.

when he saw her, he ran, she was with his dad. he looked over and saw jonah's mom and dad and..jonah. jonah saw zach and his face lit up, you could tell he had been crying he had tears streaming down his face.

jonah ran to zach, pulling him into a tight, sweet hug, never wanting to let go.

"oh my god i thought i lost you."

jonah said, pulling away from zach and looking into his eyes.

"i thought i lost you. h-he said c hallway, you were in gym. i really thought something happened to you. you weren't answering your phone."

zach said, tears filling his eyes. one slipped down his cheek and a few slipped down jonah's.

"m-my phone died in second today, i didn't charge it last night i forgot. and as soon as he we heard the gunshots we ran out to the track and got out. we were lucky. y-you were upstairs right?"

zach nodded. jonah nodded back and wiped zach's tears.

"well, we're here now, right? nothing happened to either of us. we're okay. it's okay."

zach nodded, shaking slightly. jonah pulled him into a hug again. attempting to make him feel better.

he pulled away. zach walked to his mom and dad, hugging them tightly. his mom had been crying.

he hugged jonah's parents, and then they all shared a group hug, trying to lighten the moment.

the rest of the day was a blur, they went home. zach didn't really have an appetite. he was still horrified from what had happened. he just wanted to be held, by jonah.

he called jonah.

"hello?"

jonah answered.

"can i come over?"

zach asked, his breath shaky.

"of course. the door is open and my room door is open. your spot on the bed is here. i'll see you soon."

jonah answered quickly, anything for zach.

"thank you."

zach hung up the phone and walked to jonah's.

he walked into jonah's room, looking down. he saw jonah laying down, he immediately stood up. he walked over to zach, embracing him into his arms.

"it's okay, i'm here. i'm here to hold you. come here."

jonah said softly, laying them both down onto the bed.

the two boys cuddled on the bed, zach being held in jonah's arms, feeling safe and whole. jonah didn't mind holding zach at all, anything to make zach feel safe after what had happened.
