"daniel seavey."
jonah stated, still holding zach's hand while their principal was speaking.
"huh?"
zach was confused.
"daniel seavey. he shot up the school."
jonah said. chills rolled down zach's body.
daniel seavey
zach and jonah were friends with daniel for a few years. but around freshman year, he got a little weird. he would always wear black, he used to draw a lot of very gory pictures, like two people fighting or someone getting killed.
he just, got weird. so they stopped being friends and now this. it's crazy to think that someone you used to be close to, would do something like this, zach thought.
"wow."
he said, looking at jonah. jonah nodded and turned his attention back to the principal, who had started a new topic.
"the school board and staff has decided that this week will be our last, we will finish up state testing for the rest of the week, and then you will be released for summer."
he paused, every student in the gym cheered. zach and jonah were confused.
"can they even do that?"
jonah asked.
"i don't even know. wow."
zach replied, confused. they only had three more weeks, the last two weeks were not important anyway. so he wasn't surprised that they would allow this.
"quiet please...the reason for this is that most teachers, parents, and even students, have sent complaints that they don't feel safe, or they don't want to release their kid to school, not knowing if they'll ever see them again. so they decided to cut the last two weeks. tomorrow and wednesday you will finish up testing, math tomorrow, section A and B, and then english sections wednesday."
the kids booed, they didn't want to test. zach was still confused but happy. summer was coming early this year.
"wow."
jonah said, looking towards zach who looked confused.
"i don't even know what i want to do this summer."
zach said, worried he'd be bored all summer.
"road trip."
jonah said, smiling.
"road trip? to where?"
zach asked, curious.
"california."
jonah said looking into zach's eyes. the principal was still speaking but they weren't listening.
"jonah we live in minnesota that will take us days."
"i don't care. let's do it."
jonah replied, shrugging his shoulders at zach and smiling. zach smiled.
"if our parents let us, fine."
jonah's face brightened. zach giggled.
