chapter 16

after the assembly, the students were released. jonah and zach decided they didn't want to go to the next classes, so they left early.

on their walk home, zach got a call from his mom.

"zach? zach you need to come home now."

myta said, causing nervousness to fill zachs body.

"w-what? mom? me and jonah left early. we're walking home. what happened? are you okay?"

he said, jonah looked towards him, confused. zach then turned the phone on speaker.

"it's ryan. somethings happened. you need to come home now."

"w-wha happened?"

zach asked, his cheeks heating up, he was comfused and scared. jonah grabbed his hand. the boys sped up their walking, their houses coming into view.

"j-just hurry home."

myta said before hanging up.

once they got to zach's house, jonah and jack both went in, jonah was so close he was also worried about ryan and what happened.

as soon as they got in, myta raced over to them, hugging zach and jonah, tears falling down her cheeks.

"today during school.."

myta started, she took the boys to sit them down at the table before continuing.

"r-ryan was attacked."

she stated, zach was confused, jonah was also.

"w-what do you mean, mom?"

"two boys, in the bathroom. they attacked him. he said that they, they said..."

she stopped. she didn't wanna keep going.

"mom, don't stop, please tell us."

zach said, a tear falling down his cheek.

"th-they said, 'this is what you get for having a fag brother', and then they both attacked him."

jonah was shocked, zach was sobbing, myta was also. people are so disgusting. jonah pulled zach into a hug.

"how is he, is he okay?"

jonah asked, zach looked up, teary eyed and sad. but he wanted to know also.

"he's okay, his nose in broken, two black eyes and his lip is busted."

she stated, zach gasped a little. why would someone do that to his innocent brother? and, because of him? because he was gay?

zach cried softly.

"can we go see him?"

zach asked, his sobs slowly coming to a stop.

"yes. he's in surgery for his nose right now though, he'll be out in an hour or so."

myta replied, the boys stood up with her. zach and jonah got into the car. myta went to the bathroom.

the two boys sat in the back seat together. they always done that ever since they were little. so they could sit together.

"he's gonna be okay, zach. don't worry. and please, don't think this is your fault."

jonah stated, pulling zach into his side.

"how? how could i not think this was my fault when it is? it is jonah. he got attacked because i'm gay. he's probably so mad at me."

zach said, tears filling his eyes.

"stop it, right now. it is not your fault. you cant help that you're gay, zach. those boys are disgusting and hopefully in very big trouble right now. it is not your fault."

jonah said, wiping zach's tear. zach shook his head.
