chapter 18

*two days later*

"hurry up, zach. jonah's gonna leave without you, i love you."

myta said. zach nodded and hugged her.

"i love you too, mom."

he rushed out the door and got into the car with jonah.

"we're actually doing this."

jonah said. zach put his suitcase in the back next to jonah's. jonah grabbed his hand.

"we are, aren't we."

he smiled. jonah smiled back as they pulled off.

"i say we drive until about 10 or 11, then we stop at a hotel and stay for the night and then get back on the road in the morning. we'll be driving everyday for about week if we stop at hotels every night."

he said. zach thought for a minute.

"that sounds better than nonstop driving. anddd hotels have pools. we can swim."

jonah giggled at zach's comment. zachs always loved to swim. jonah nodded and rubbed his thumb across zach's.

"okay, baby. we can swim if you want."

he sent zach a soft smile. they drove for about three hours before stopping at a taco bell to get dinner.

they ate and got back on the road. jonah turned on the radio and a shawn mendes song came on. zach loved that song.

jonah didn't know this about zach, but zach has always loved to sing. he's sang around jonah only when music was playing and he wouldn't sing very loud. he's very insecure about his singing, but he loves to sing and write songs.

he has many songs in his notes on his phone, that he's written. zach turned the radio up and sang with the song.

"baby, there's nothing holding me back"

zach sang. jonah heard zach singing, he could barely hear him, but from what he heard zach sounded so good.

zach didn't realize jonah was listening, he thought jonah couldn't hear. so he began to sing louder.

jonah could hear him very clearly now. it was so good, better than he could've imagined. jonah clicked off the radio, leaving zach singing by himself.

he sang for a second before realizing the song was off. his face turned a bright red.

"hey!! why did you do that?"

he said, looking down. jonah giggled.

"you sound so amazing, zach. i didn't know you could sing. wow."

jonah said. zach smiled softly. someone telling him he could sing just made him happy. he loved to sing.

"no, you're just sayin that."

zach said. jonah grabbed zach's hand.

"i'd never lie to you, baby. you sound incredible. i didn't know you liked to sing."

he answered back. zach nodded.

"i've written songs, too."

jonah was surprised.

"really?? let me hear!"

jonah said excitedly. zach shook his head. 

"nope. they're bad."

jonah shook his head.

"i'm sure they're amazing."

zach blushed.

"okay, every night i'll sing a different song to you when we get to our hotel."

jonah smiled towards zach and then focused his eyes on the road again.

"okay, love. that sounds amazing."
