I was suddenly hushed by my dad.

"What is wrong, dad", I asked.

He did not reply. He just motioned me into my mother's room where she was dying. My blood started running cold.
"Annabeth, promise me something", my mom whispered.

"Anything mom" I sobbed back.

"Be Always wise. Think before you act. Don't do what I did. Promise me" my mom said, her breath becoming more labored and shallow "

"Of course mom"

"I love you, dear"

It was the last words she ever spoke.

I sobbed uncontrollably in my dad's arms. His eyes were brimming with tears. I took a deep breath. My dad needed me as much as I needed him.

After the funeral, my dad continued his business and took care of me.

After 4 years

My dad called me into the sitting room.
He said "Annabeth you are now 16 and I realized you need a mother, so I would like to remarry"

I said "Sure dad. I will need some womanly advice and I can't get it from you"

He chuckled at my joke.
