Faded Smiles #22
Unexpected Happenings

Aryl's POV

The moment I open my eyes, all I can see is the darkness that envelops my sight. I stare at my mirror reflection and smile wickedly.

After a few minutes, the alarm clock that was placed on my table rang simultaneously but my body didn't move a bit.

I don't want to go to school.

I don't want to see their eyes full of disgrace and disappointment.

I stared at the paper that was folded into three and get it with my left hand. I bit my lower lip as I opened it and read the last two bullets without a check.

4. Make my parents happy.

5. Give Mommy her wish.

I sigh and fold again the paper thrice before putting it on my table.

"You just ruin her life, Aryl. How can you make her happy?" I answered myself whilst the last two parts of the bucket list are still bugging me.

I glanced at the clock that was also in the table and I mentally curse myself because I took 40 minutes in the bed without doing anything.

I irritatedly stood up and hurried to my bathroom to take a bath. I also got my bathrobe that was hanging near the bathroom door.

I took another 20 minutes for making myself ready. I felt my heart pumped faster than it used to be but I just ignored it because of the time that I already consume.

Hastily, I run towards the room's door and open it widely for me to went out faster.

When I finally went downstairs, my forehead automatically creased as mom and Uncle Rommel sitting next to each other while exchanging a different kind of stares.

"Mom," her attention quickly diverted to me but Uncle Rommel arms remained still at the backrest of our sofa.

I walkesw towards her to give her a peck but as usual, she evaded my lips to touch her cheeks.

I sighed in frustration but beam afterward.

"I need to go, mom," I said whilst taking my step from her.

I heard her laughed that make my fist close in annoyance, but I tried to contain myself and ignore it. "Do you think, I care? Go wherever you want, I dont care. "

I smiled faintly at her back as I bit my lower lip to suppress my emotion, "no mommy, I know you don't care about me at all."

As I whisper those words that cut and break my heart, I rashly run towards the main door and went directly to the main gate. I didn't expect that Mang Lucas followed me using our family car, so I stopped walking and looked at the car behind me.

I uplifted my cheeks as I face him in the driver's seat door.

"What's the problem, Manong?" I asked whilst checking myself to the side mirror of our car.

"Your Mom said I should escort you to your school." He went out to the driver's seat and held my bag as he opens the passenger seat for me.

I silently stepped inside and get my bag that he just put on my lap.

"Ma'am, is there a thing that bothers you?"I saw how Mang Lucas peeked at me for a second with his worried expression and gaze again to the road.

I just snickered and looked at him whilst hugging my backpack. "Nothing Manong. I'm just nervous, " I whisper as he stops the car in the huge gate shouting elegance.

I took an intense breath and inhale fresh air as I withdraw myself from the car.

"Here it is Aryl. Know to face the consequence." I felt that my heart becomes getting heavier as my feet walk towards the extravagant school gate.

As soon as I reached the gate, a big massive arms cover my whole shoulder, thus I look at my side to know who is it and to my surprise, his complete white set of teeth and his chunky cheeks faced me.

Unexpectedly, my hands automatically lead its way to his chest and push him hard that causes him to bulge in the stairs.

My eyes widen, and my feet instinctively run towards him that still there where he was fallen.

"Are you alright?" my voice cracks as I bent down to his side and check him.

He beams gently and held my cheeks and slightly pinched it. "I'm alright, you don't need to cry. I hate it when tears from your eyes are falling," he gently said.

I bit my lower lip to stop myself uplifting my cheekbones for him. "It's good, then."

I ready myself to stood up but his hands rashly held my arms like he never wanted to let go.

I glanced at him with a big question mark in my head as I am trying to get my hands from him but he is persistent not to.

"Is there any problem?"I worriedly ask but he remains still while his eyes are still at mine.

But my eyes automatically took wide as I felt a soft thing that gently touched my forehead, his lips. "You don't need to felt bad about yesterday. We still won, and I am the one who wrote the answer."

"But we could win if I help you out," I mumbled as my eyes are fixed with my fingers that are unclasping with each other.

"Maybe. But all competitions have it's a winner. Will will rise and shine in the next." I felt his fingers that holding my chin and forcibly trying to make me look at him.

"You don't need to feel bad, his right. It is not your time to shine, Aryl," my other side brain answers as if trying to comfort me.

I felt relaxed and smiled back at him when I finally look at his eyes like he wanted.

"But you didn't change the fact that you lose because you don't share your idea towards the last question. You lost and you are a disgrace like what your mom had said.," the negative side caught me that left me dumbfounded.

Yeah right Aryl, always remembers that you are a failure. You are not a princess neither a queen to have a knight that will always be by your side.
