chapter 4

I stared into the forest wide eyed. I heard people yelling for me to wait for them, but I didn't have the time. My hood flew off and my cloak trailed slightly behind me. I ran faster than I ever have, faster than my memory could remember. Everything was passing me like a blur, almost like I was... teleporting?

Before I knew it I was in the shadow depths of the forest, hearing my name called out in almost all directions, an echo going through the trees. "Penelope?" I called to her, then I started getting frustrated when all I got back were soft sobs, no explanation of what was wrong or where she was. "Penelope!" I screamed, I turned in a slow circle, the sound was coming from everywhere. But I noticed something unusual, mist. It was small but shimmering in the sun nonetheless.

"Penny?" I whispered, I looked down to where my sword was supposed to be but found it gone, in my cabin and my bow and arrows with it. I clenched my fists and waited for a small sound, any sound at all. I heard my name called from all directions, in its echo that made shivers run down my spine. I decided to move to my right, because maybe that direction... was always the right one? Ugh, cheesy.

I decided to use my method, I took a step to the right. but before my foot hit the ground I saw the scene around me shift. Then  was standing in front of a hole, my sister standing grimly beside me. She looked so much older, so much more mature. I looked down at the hole, a long and dark abyss with shadows scattered everywhere.

My sister didn't say anything, I tried to let the endless questions flow out, but I couldn't. It was like my mouth was glued shut, like I was a zombie wordless of anything at all. Or I was stunned speechless. I focused on the hole in front of me, it pulled at my memories like a child pulls at their clothes when their nervous. Something was special about it, or something was dangerous.

That was it. It was definitely dangerous, endless, going on for what looked like forever, out of eye sight. At least for a human eye. A bunny, one of the animals with the absolute best eyesight possible could be stuck looking at the exact same thing, the shadows just pulled back farther.

I wanted to kick something, to scream my frustration of not knowing what was going on. I didn't like asking questions but I felt like now was the perfect time to ask. Everything was messed up, made into something it isn't supposed to be. I would scream if I could, but I couldn't, as a low voice boomed to us from the hole, "Be gone, or join me." We stood glued to the ground, I was now frozen from fright, if I could move again I wouldn't notice. But I impossibly did.

"Never."

And with that  the scene changed once again, I felt accomplished. Like I could do anything, but that adrenaline was turned off once I saw what was beneath me, endless sky. I wanted to scream my head off and never stop until I was dead. Not moving at all. But then it all changed. I realized I wasn't looking at the sky, it was a clear baby blue sea. The lightest shade of color I had ever seen. But I was above it.

I wanted to scream again but I held it in, I could move but not sure about talking. I whispered to myself and it was confirmed, I could talk. Then I felt my body drop, I screamed for real as I hit something hard beneath me. It was the ground. I looked up and saw a tree, a broken branch underneath me. I sighed and settled, my feet resting off the cliff. Then the scene shifted again.

I was staring up at the bottom of a bed, sweat all over my forehead and beaded under my nose. My cloak was beside me and I was in what I recognized as my pajamas. Was this all a dream? Was there no camp, did I not have a sister at all? I got up and wiped the sweat off, then grabbed my cloak without opening my eyes and looked around. I was about to gasp when I saw I was in my cabin, the Hades cabin.

I looked up at the top bunk and saw Penelope snoozing peacefully. None of it was a dream, but some of it was. The question is how much. And... what time it is. I peeked out the window and saw the sun casting colors streaking across the sky. It made me feel warm inside. My eyes widened as I realized I was actually thinking something was... pretty? Aren't I supposed to be a daughter of Hades? I am not supposed to be thinking of sunsets and pink! I was having a mental breakdown over that one little emotion, a big emotion.

I looked back at my three siblings, I grew close to the two of my new acquaintances. They were like me but I was a bit more girly. Their names were Draco and Elektra. I learned our father had actually chosen Greek names for them, Draco as in dragon and Elektra as in amber which was what her mother had asked for her to be named.

They were the people who I had wanted to be friends with for the longest time, mysterious. But everyone needs sometime away from their family and friends, my time is now. I slowly opened the door, to my approval without a noise, and sneaked to where I found was my favorite place in the whole camp. It was a place filled with peace and tranquility. I decided no go into the woods, I stayed by the rim of the shadows. The tree nymphs might get a bit cranky seeing someone disturbing their peace. But I quickly pushed that out of my mind, I needed to sort through which was real and which was a nightmare.

hey!!!!!!!! Sorry I havent been posting often, I got a wicked cold and now its affecting my voice. Whenever I talk I can only say like three words before I start coughing like a dying person... My friend are starting to get worried so their trying to get me to stay with them as much as possible so I dont get hurt even more which is SO sweet! ☺ Anyways any suggestions? I am really trying to make this the best I can but I am kind of losing my good ideas. Like my rangers apprentice fanfic. I started out good and then it starts getting rushed, weirdly written. I will be trying to best I can, tomorrow if I dont send out updates at about 2 pm eastern time then im still working on a chapter or got caught up in something. Well, cya my nightmares :3
