I sighed as I walked, my sister clutching my hand. She seemed like she was in a whole different world, thinking intently. "How are you doing?" She smiled up at me and said, "I have an idea." I raised and eyebrow. "A sucky one?" She shook her head, then beamed as she saw something glinting off the light of the sunrise.
She squealed with delight, then grabbed it. A golden coin. I was about to question her before she said, "Yes!" Then threw the golden coin on the ground, it flipped trough the air almost in slow motion, then passed through the rocky ground. Passed through. "Stêthi, Ô hárma diabolês!" Penelope said, I looked at her then heard a squeal of tires.
A taxi pulled up in front of us. Penelope hopped in happily, where I hesitated a few seconds before sitting beside her and closing the door. "Anywhere in New York city, please!" Penelope said to the three drivers, "No problem hun'." One of them said. The taxi sped away, so fast I couldn't see what we were passing clearly.
"Uh, Penelope." I waited for her to look at me grinning, her usual cheerful self. "You realize we don't have any money, right?" She just laughed, a genuine laugh of pleasure. It wasn't fake, it wasn't forced at all. The look in her eyes said it all, that little sparkle. The sparkle of fun. "Well, you don't. I do." I raised my eyebrows in surprise, then made a mental note to never underestimate her.
"Did you have a dream last night? About our quest?" She looked at me surprised and nodded. I smiled and felt the taxi stop. I gasped. "That was like, three minutes." I heard the three ladies laugh, then they turned. They had no eyes. One eye in the hand of the lady in the middle. "Well, sweetheart, fastest transportation there is. Well, pay up." All three held out one hand and I waited until my sister asked, "How much?"
"A hundred drachmas." I gasped, then looked back to my sister. How could she get her hands on all that? Wait, I noticed ever since we came to camp she's been hanging out a lot with the Hermes kids. Penelope laughed awkwardly, then turned to the ladies slowly. "Funny story, see, I only brought fifty drachmas." She went back to laughing awkwardly. The ladies exchanged glances, then turned to discus what to do. They turned back to us. "Give us a drachma each and we'll lay of ya."Said the one on the left. She quickly pulled out three drachmas, tossed it to them, then pushed us both out the door.
Penelope let out a sigh of relief, "That was a close one." We said simultaneously. We laughed quickly, then Penelope gasped. "Take off your cloak, people don't wear that anymore!" She quickly took off my cloak, then put it in my bag. "Jeez, don't ruin perfect." She giggled, then I held her hand as we walked out of the trees holding our bags.
"Should have brought a satyr, huh?" I nodded, "Well, is it me or whenever a satyr enters the room smells like a farm?" Penelope gasped and looked at me shocked, I was grateful she didn't stop walking. "I thought it was only me!" I laughed, her following my lead. People gave us weird looks but we ignored them, a little sister bonding time was amazing.
Then, I got the best idea out of best ideas. "Dude!" Se raised an eyebrow at me, "We can look for satyrs! We can ask the satyr what demigod they're looking after, hopefully there's only one satyr in this whole city. I know it's a bad wish, there is probably going to be at least like three." She nodded and we looked around. Black cars passed by with smoke following behind, not from going fast, it was doing anything but going fast.
"Ok, we can do this." The last word barely came out of my mouth when I saw two boys on the other side of the road, one I knew. "A satyr." I whispered to my sister, she looked up at the two boys and nodded. We walked across the street, talking about random things like cookies or cupcakes. While we were about to pass by the two boys I grabbed one of their arms. It wasn't the satyrs, thankfully.
"Hey let... Shadow. " He bowed, I shook my head and face palmed with my free hand. "And I actually thought people would still treat me how they treated me before they found out who my mother was." The satyr didn't meet my eyes, so I looked to the boy. He had brown hair and eye, small, about Penelope's age. I knew exactly who he was. "Champ." Me and my sister said simultaneously. Now the boy looked scared.
"Don't be scared, you were chosen." He looked to the satyr quickly, "Toby, help!" He shook his head and looked to me worried. "They won't hurt you, they're good." I knew that was an overstatement, me and Penelope are anything but good. But we don't like hurting people. "How much have you told him?" I asked Toby, he shook his head, he kept him away from Greek knowledge. "Any idea who his parent is?" He thought for a moment, then nodded. "Athena." I smiled to myself grimly, a kid who could fight, perfect. "Well, tell him everything." The satyr nodded quickly and started explaining to the boy.
I looked around, then noticed guns pacing across the street. One was walking towards us. I felt an aura coming from him, a dangerous one. Not a mortal aura, those kind of feel like nothing, but ths one felt cold. He sent a chill down my spine as he walked towards us. I hugged Penelope and grabbed Champ's arm, then he grabbed Toby. I screamed, high pitched and full of terror, as I felt like I was being ripped in half.
Then we weren't there anymore, we were somewhere different. I had no clue where we were but it must have been our next stop, because this wasn't where I was trying to shadow travel. I felt the pain spread throughout my body, then I collapsed. Everything looked it was going in slow motion, the yells of my name, seeing everyone run towards me. The pain like my heart beat, throbbing everywhere. Black spots danced through my vision, I tried to follow them but they just ran away. They were playing tricks on me. I felt anger slowly washing over me, before it could take control the spots swallowed my vision, then everything was dark. That was life. A dark pit. I heard screams but didn't know where they were coming from. The sounds were everywhere. I didn't know what was real, but I couldn't trust myself to say that anything was real yet. I just had to be patient, that was what I knew was real. Consciousness would wash over me and I would see my sister again. This was all a illusion wasn't real. I waited, nothing was real.
Then I saw something, a light that looked like sunset zoom past me. I couldn't turn, I couldn't follow the light to see what it was. I couldn't move. Then the darkness was replaced by the green of the forest trees of camp half blood. I stumbled forwards, looked at my hands and saw the sleeves of my cloak. I looked around, "Hello?"
"Hi." The sunset light zoomed in front of me, and in front of me stood an angel. The man had wings, the color of a sunset or rust. "I am a follower of cupid, and I need a favor. In return I will give you something you thought you would never find. Being a daughter of Aphrodite, I know you have thought having love was what you wanted most."
I slowly nodded, this wasn't real. "Great, but I assure you, you must do this. I would have came in person, but I fear the boy would have gone crazy. Anyways, the quest of seven, something you will know of after your first trip to tartarus. Nico and Jason, that is all you must know. They go alone anywhere, you go to. Watch over them, you will be a follower of Hecate sooner or later. I see it in your eyes. They always have that sparkle, that sparkle of intelligence.f Hecate doesn't send you to watch over them, I do. Stay hidden in the shadows, camouflage, don't let them see you. Don't ever interfere until the time is right, you will know, trust me."
I slowly nodded, it was all a dream. He seemed to read my thoughts, but I sighed. "Fine, I will. So... I am going to tartarus?" He chuckled, then nodded. "All gods and goddess' go to tartarurus eventually. Even the best of the best, everyone dies." I nodded, not very encouraging but eh, he isn't here to give encouragement. "Well, I should get going. Good luck, and remember this talk." I nodded and then everything went back to the darkness.
I was falling down an endless hole, people around me screaming my name but I was unable to see them. I wanted to scream, to cry, to commit suicide, but I couldn't. I was frozen in fear, everything whistling past my ears. Children crying, people screaming. It sounded like hell. Maybe that was where I was. Tartarus. The endless hole.
But then I felt something move, I was hugging them. It was a girl. I saw her long hair now, felt it blowing past my face. It was curly, ringlets dancing with the wind. Then I saw a flash of light cross her face, red light. She was the blonde girl from my dream.
Where was I? Who was I? I reached to play nervously with my hair but it wasn't there. My ponytail was gone. Then I knew what was happening. It was a play of the future. I knew because I saw a flash of purple to the left. Me. I was falling with them. And I was scared. I was just in the boys point of view. Why was I falling with these two? Then I knew, they were heading to tartarus, once they die I leave tartarus and go to find Nico and Jason. Then I saw everything, I held onto the wall of the hole, but me and the girl fell in.
Then the dream cleared and I gained consciousness.
