I was starting to feel comfortable in dark lake, a fact that was starting to worry me. I still wanted to leave but there was a small part of me telling me that staying wouldn't be a bad thing. I had made friends with the nursery staff over the past few days and Kiara had made sure to spend a lot of time with me, despite her beta duties.
I hadn't seen much of Darius through out the week, he had been busy talking through a treaty with a neibouring pack. I wasn't complaining, I could barely think when he was around.
"Looks like someone's fallen asleep again, that boy sure has grown attached to you."
I look down at the little blonde haired angel cuddled up to me on my lap. His head resting on my chest and his tiny hands, tightly grasping onto the material of my shirt.
I can't help but smile at the sight of a lightly snoring Sammy, as my heart fills with warmth. He had been having such troubles with getting used to being in the day care, but for some reason he had taken a fancy to me and demands as much of my attention as he possibly can. Not that I'm complaining at all, he's such a little darling, I fell in love with those big brown doe eyes the second I saw them.
"Why don't you pass him to me and get going Luna, it's getting late. I'm sure the Alpha will be expecting you home soon for dinner."
I can't help but let my smile drop slightly at the mention of Darius. He still made me nervous, but honestly, he confused me more than anything. For so long I had thought of him as merely a monster, but seeing how he runs his pack; how he cares for them and how everyone loves and respects him, has my mind wavering slightly.
"Thank you betty."
Betty ran the nursery, she was an older lady, most probably in her sixties. She instantly made me feel welcome here and I can't help but compare her to my own mother. The maternal warmth that radiates off of her and the way in which she loves every child like they were her own was heart warming to see. My mum would have been around her age if she were alive, my parents had had me rather late in life. Their "little miracle" they would tell me. A dull ache formed in my chest at the thought of them, but I brushed it off, not wanting ti upset myself with such thoughts and passed over little Sammy to the sweet old lady, before saying my goodbyes.
The evening went by fast, I had dinner on my own, since both Darius and Kiara were busy with pack work. I was so used to being constantly shaparoned, that I welcomed the quiet for a bit. I'm sure there were guards stationed outside of the house, Darius had made sure there always were "just incase" he had said. Still I was glad to habe some me time for a bit. Though Kiara is lovely, she doesn't half know how to talk. Before I knew it, I was in bed, exhausted and completely ready to welcome sleep.
All I could see was darkness. Cold shivers wracked down my entire body as the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end. My head snapped around, begging for some semblance of light but there was nothing. My heart was beating a thousand miles an hour, causing my head to hurt from the volume of it's heavy beating.
Suddenly a menacingly evil laugh echoes around me. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't think, all I could do was panic and as fear took over.
"Did you really think that you could get away from me... you filthy rouge!"
The voice spat with complete venom, a voice I knew all too well. One that I couldn't forget, even in a million years; the voice of my own personal devil.
"You're pathetic... just a piece of rouge scum! You deserve to rot in the cells, where you belong!"
An unvolentary whimper escapes my trembling mouth. My knees give way as I sink to the floor, my hands go up to cover my ears as I shake my head repeatedly, praying that somehow the it'll block out that disgusting voice from taunting my hearing. But that wasn't all I could hear now, no, the screams and cries of the ones I had once loved, the ones I cherished more than life itself, coccooned me in a blanket of death. They begged for help, to be saved... but there was nothing I could do.
