Malik drove me home without saying anything to me, and I didn't want to say anything to him as well. There was an amount of hostility in the air that I wasn't use to, it was mixed with the anger that flowed out of Malik and the sadness that came from me. I felt safe in the little time that I spent in Malik's arms, he gave me a reassuring kiss that made me melt but in a good way. When we arrived in front of my house my dad's car was no where to be found--a good sign. I thought to myself that he really stayed at work this time. Malik treated me to lunch, extra food, a walk in the park and he bought me shoes. I was very fond of him but it never occurred to me that I really like him until he comforted me, usually other guys would have left or would have not tried to make me feel better in any way shape or form. Malik stepped out of the car to get my shoe box and when he came back around he opened my door and took my food bag out of my hand.
"Thank you. I said.
He didn't say much to me, instead he just nodded. He took my hand and helped me down from my seat, and that's when he burst out into loud laughter.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing, nothing." He said as he waved his hand to me to let it go.
"No, seriously what?" I demanded.
"It's just so cute how you have to do a little jump to get out of my car." Malik said.
I placed one hand on my hip and looked up at him, "That's not funny."
"Just a little." He said. "Come on, I'll get you in the house."
I didn't move, "You gonna laugh at me again?" I said and raised one eyebrow.
"Come on ma, of course not." Malik said. He had a sly smirk on his face that he tried to compose but failed. "OK, maybe."
My mouth dropped playfully and I started to walk ahead of Malik. I rummaged through my purse for my keys. I found my keys and turned to look at Malik who was right behind, he was so close that our faces could've touched. I didn't move and neither did he, I liked this position. When I became a little too nervous I quickly turned to open the door and I heard Malik chuckle behind me.
I pushed the door through and took my things from Malik and set them down. "Thank you again." I said.
"No problem." He said. "When's our next date?" He said playfully.
"I didn't think this one was a date."
He took my hand, and brought me closer to him. "Do you want to go on an official date? The ones at night where we get all dressed up and drink and end the night off with a kiss?" Malik said with a smile.
"You kiss on the first date?"
"You don't?" He smiled. His smiles were always mesmerizing and sexy.
"I've never been on a date." I said.
"Well lets find out if you do when we go on a date." Malik said. I loved the way he was slick with his word play.
"OK, I'd love that." I responded.
"Aight, just let me know."
"I will."
"Bye ma." Malik said.
Malik kissed my cheek and I could've sworn he left my face on fire. His lips were warm and soft and when he touched me, sparks were flying on and around me. I tried to compose myself and not to smile but I think it was too late. He noticed my beaming smile and laughed under his breath, he looked at me and turned towards his car.
"Bye Malik." I waved to him and he waved back.
I watched as he entered his Volvo and drove off, I went into the house and put my back against the door and sunk to the ground while smiling with glee. I looked at the shoe box next to me and picked it up admiring the shoes and the whole day came crashing down making me melt. I jumped up and carried my food to the kitchen and my shoes to my room. I was glad my dad was not home to ask about the shoes but there was only two things to do now, find a dress for my date and hide the shoes from my dad. Throughout all of the things that moved in my mind, I could only focus on one thing. Malik was on my mind and it never occurred to me of how excited I was to go out with him again. I spent the rest of my dad in my room and fell asleep early not knowing when my dad came home--I didn't care to know either.
