Jungkook walked into the hospital in the morning, feeling exhausted after getting home late the night before and not getting a good night's sleep. He greeted the secretary—who barely even spared him a glance—and walked off towards his shared office.

When he approached the office, he smiled at the sound of loud chatter from inside, thinking he might have a chance to have a legitimate conversation with the people he shared an office with.

He opened the door to the office and stepped in, hearing everyone's voices go down to a whisper. He frowned at the thought and went to his desk and set his things down. Everyone's voices stayed low and they occasionally glanced at Jungkook, making him feel more ostracized than he usually was.

Jungkook stood up from his seat again and gathered a few things, not wanting to bother with them and instead heading to the on call room. On the way there, he decided to stop by Chanyeol's office to notify him of where he would be, considering that there was another surgery later in the day.

He walked up to Chanyeol's office and raised his hand to knock on the door, but froze when he saw the man from the surgery yesterday inside of the office.

The man seemed to be having some sort of conversation with Chanyeol, and Jungkook couldn't help but want to listen to what they were talking about. But, knowing that it was his boss after all, he decided to leave it at that and turned on his heels to walk towards the on call room.

He spared one last glance into the office and felt his eyes widen and jaw drop. The two were shaking hands? As in making a deal? As in...

This man had to be the newest cardiothoracic surgeon.

Jungkook tried to clear his mind of his new revelation and began to walk to the on call room. He stopped when he heard the office door slide open and the conversation from inside flood out into the hallway.

"Of course, that sounds great," Chanyeol said, probably to the newest cardiothoracic surgeon, "I could've sworn I just saw Jungkook. I apologize, I was planning on introducing you to him but that boy is all over the place," Chanyeol added, causing the two to burst out into a light chuckle.

At the sound of his dreaded name, Jungkook bolted in the direction of the on call room, leaving behind a confused Chanyeol and a more confused visitor to the hospital.

Jungkook opened the door to the on call room and let out a loud sigh when he saw that it was empty. Surprisingly.

He walked over to one of the beds and set his files and books down. He sat on top of the bed and tried to make himself comfortable, shifting around in his stiff clothing and returning back to his files.

Jungkook relished in the silence of the on call room. He didn't have to deal with obnoxious nurses talking about him behind his back or rude doctors who just saw him as a kid with dreams that were too difficult to reach.

Jungkook picked up his phone, turning the screen on so he could glance at the time. 9:57.

Only around another hour before he had to go and get ready for the next surgery.

Jungkook woke up to an alarm, again, in the on call room. He sat for a moment, trying to remember what time it was, more importantly what day it was, before realizing he had a surgery to prepare for.

He jumped out of bed and grabbed his files and books, running out of the on call room straight to his office. He swung the office door open quickly, startling the nurses inside, before running to his desk and throwing his books and papers onto it, deciding he would deal with them later.

He rushed down to the operation room—almost knocking down a girl trying to use crutches to which he apologized profusely—and changed quickly into his scrubs. He threw on his face mask and hair mask before running in to wash his hands and get some gloves on.

He saw Chanyeol walking in, completely calm and prepared—of course—and sighed because he knew he had a long procedure ahead of them.

Chanyeol washed his hands and headed into the operation room with Jungkook in to, mumbling something about how he should have showed up earlier to make sure everything was in place and how the surgery could take longer to start all because of him—

He saw the same man sitting in the observation room, looking down at them.

The same man who was in there the day before and the same man who was in Chanyeol's office only a few hours ago.

"Is he the new cardiothoracic—"

"Scalpel," Chanyeol commanded, heading straight into the surgery and ignoring Jungkook's incessant questions.

Jungkook looked up at the man staring intently at them as the surgery went on. Jungkook had barely seen the man, didn't know his name, or anything about him in general. But he knew one thing for sure.

He already didn't like this man's attitude. And he knew there would be a lot more to come in the future because of it.
