I awake to the yelling of a middle age man. "Oi, you kids, what are you doing in there?"
Nate looks up and sees the flashlights pointing towards us, he panics. "Shit guys, it's the cops, run."
We all get up quickly and run to the other end of the pipe, I can still hear the police calling us from the other end. We all run out of the pipe and keep running until we reach a whole bunch of trees and bushes.
"Do you think we got away?" Kiana asks, not talking to anyone in particular.
"Fuck I think so." Nate replies. "Do yous want to stay at mine?"
"Yeah." Jack and kiana say in sync.
The walk back to Nate's I keep quiet and so does everyone else. I can't believe what just happened. Did I actually just do drugs? Did we actually just get chased by police? But it was all so worth it. I can't remember much about earlier, everything is so fuzzy, I remember watching Nate and trying to see what to do, I remember feeling so happy, and most of all I remember Jack kissing me, that's something I won't ever forget. I just met these people today, what am I doing? I have done more with Kiana, Nate and Jack than I did with my old friends. I guess this is what I am now, I like the new me.
"What time is it?" Jack asks, breaking the silence.
"4:23am" Either Kiana or Nate answers, I'm not paying much attention to what they are all saying.
We finally arrive back to Nate's after what seemed to be a 3 year trek.
"Be quiet, my parents are asleep." Nathan whispers.
"Will they care that we are here?" I ask.
"They shouldn't care really." Nate replies, still whispering.
"Oi bro, do you have an munchies? I'm staving." Jack asks Nate.
"Yeah bro, there's pizza if the fridge and a couple bags of chips in the cupboard, bring them into my room." Nate says back to Jack.
As soon as Jack brings the food into Nate's room I open a bag of salt and vinegar chips and stuff my face. I don't think I have ever been this hungry, this is crazy. We all eat and talk more and I am starting to feel so much more comfortable, more than I did at the start of the night.
---
The next morning, I wake up to Nate's mom knocking on his bedroom door.
"Oh hey mum, this is Remi, and you know the others." Nathan says, still half asleep.
"Hello Remi, I'm Monique." Nate's mom says to me.
"Nice to meet you." I reply.
"Do you guys want breakfast or are yous going out?" Monique asks.
"We'll eat here, what are you cooking?" Nate's replies.
"I was thinking pancakes?"
"Yeah that sounds good, thanks mum."
•1 MONTH LATER•
A lot has changed in one month, Kiana has changed me, a lot. She has taken me to parties, I've tried drugs with her, I smoke now, I'm sexually active, so god damn much has changed. I still have feeling for Jack, but he hasn't kissed me since that first night I spent with him, Nate and Kiana, I guess ill just have to deal with that.
I wake up on a Sunday morning. Mom still seems to be asleep. I roll over and open the bottle draw of my bed side table and take out a small metal box. I sit up and sit the box on my lap and open it. I take out a small but sharp blade and try to find an empty spot on my arm to slice open but I can't , I move to my right arm, so much space. My right arm is like a blank canvas and my blade is the paintbrush, ready to paint my true feelings on the flesh canvas. I start right near m elbow on the inside and slice my way down to my wrist, it hurts so much but the pain is so for filling. I quickly get up and walk to the bathroom & get some tissues to soak up the blood trickling down my arms, some has dripped onto the tiles in the bathroom but I quickly clean it up before it dries.
When I get back into my room, I pack away my blades and put on a jumper. It hurts more than I want it to when the material of the jumper rubs against my fresh cuts but I deal with it. I go to my moms room to see if she is still asleep and she is, so I decide to take one of her cigarettes. I sit on the decking outside and light up my smoke. I don't really like the taste of cigarettes but they seem to be really relaxing.
