The One and Only

Chapter 6

                       Kyleigh's point of view

           My heart races as I run. I hear my feet pounding on the grass and leaves. I can hear my rapid breathing. I turn my head to look behind me and trip on a stick. I land on the ground with a hard thump. Instead of getting up and lay on the ground looking up at the sky. It is dark and I can see the starts. Anytime now, the sun would be coming up. I pant and I can't seem to relax or calm down. I close my eyes and I run my hand over my forehead, pushing my hair back from my eyes. I can't believe he through a knife at me. I feel a hand on my arm and I shoot up. I gasp and shout "No! Leave ME Alone!!" I move back and open my eyes. I see a rather young guy in a plaid shirt and jeans. He has brown hair and he holds up his broad hands "Whoa..." I pant and back up to a tree "Wh-Who are you?" I ask nervously. "I was going to ask you the same thing..."He says. I hug my knees as he slowly approaches me "My name is Josh... I was hunting and I seen you laying here... Your name is?.." I gulp and I hesitate. "Ky-Kyleigh.." I reply. "Nice to meet you, Kyleigh... You look terrible.. What happened to your neck?" He says. I bring my hand up to where Cameron bit me... Cameron... What happened to him?... I hope he's okay.. Josh's voice takes me away from my thoughts "Would you be willing to come to my place?.. I can clean you up..." I look at him and his brown eyes shimmer in the morning light. I slowly nod and he helps me up.

          When we approach to a wooden cabin in the woods, I stop. I look around. This places seems too familiar.. Josh looks at me "What is it?" I look at him and shake my head "N-Nothing..." We head in side and he tells me to follow him. I follow him and he sits me at the dining table. He grabs the first aid kit and starts to clean up my neck. "What were you doing out there?" he asks. I look at him and say "I was attacked.. by an animal." I lied. I do not know what the heck Cameron is. I do not know what the heck I'm running from... I turn my head and I can feel Josh's hand on my neck. He slowly wipes away the blood and I feel pain from the wound. I hiss at he pain and I jump. Josh pulls away "Sorry.." I bite my lip and he bandages it.

           I look down at my hands as he cleans up the first aid kit. He reaches in the cupboard "Water?" he asks. "Yes, please.." I look at him and his biceps flex as he grabs the cups. I force myself to not look. I look at my hands and I pick at my nails. "Here you go" He says and hands me the glass of water. I look up at him and smile a little bit "Thanks" I barely whisper. I sip the water and set it on the table. "What's happened to you?" he asks. "I told you.. I was attacked... "I look down "I barely got away." I sigh and there's a silence. I get enough courage and ask him, "I know that you do not know me all that well but can I stay here? Just for the night.. I'll leave in the morning.." He nods "Yeah, sure. There's a room at the end of the hall. You can stay there. There's a bed that's already made." I nod "Okay.." I stand up. I walk past him "Thank you... for helping me out." I walk to the room. 

       I'm exhausted and tired. Hopefully I can sleep. I wonder what happened to Cameron. He said he's coming to find me after he is done fighting the two people who attacked us. Even though he bit me and threw a knife at me, I care for him. He saved me from that one guy. I lay on the bed and look up at the ceiling. I bring my hand up to my neck and lightly brush my fingertips along the bandage. I'm so scared... I feel like the whole world is against me now. Just yesterday, I was having fun with my friends. How could this turn on a dime... I haven't done anything to anyone, at all and I'm being treated like a pawn... So many people are after me, I think. I turn around on my side and curl up in a fetal position. I close my eyes and focus on my breathing. That was in a book I've read. If you close your eyes and focus on your breathing.. Just take the breathing slow and deeply, you can fall asleep. Just leave all your worries and stress behind. Soon.... I fall asleep.
