Collin
"I don't care. You are not taking him!" Hazel yelled.
It was a long day. Cole was fed and now asleep in his bed. So what better way than to have a nice discussion with Hazel. Unfortunately this is anything but nice.
"He is my son too." My jaw ticked. "We are going back Hazel?"
"You can go back but my son stays with me."
"Our son and how the hell are you going to support him! Do you have a job?" I know I was playing dirty but no way in hell will she take Cole away from me. Ever since she had married me now divorce not once had she gotten a decent job. Not that I care actually but I have been letting her use the money that was meant for Cole.
"That's what child support is for and alimony."
"Hazel." I growled, "Do not make me take you to court."
She turned to me dumbfounded, "You could never do that. I am his mother."
"Hazel, mother or not, I will claim full custody if you fight me on this." Hazel knows that I can hire one of the best lawyer if she chooses to go to court with me. And if I have to, I will take her to court. Sure the court favors the mothers but with Hazel unable to provide for Cole I sure as hell will win that battle. I don't usually play dirty but in this case, when it comes to Cole I will do anything.
"Please Collin, don't take him away from me. He is the only one I have left." She begged.
"We are going back home and that is final. You can either come home with us or not." Usually Hazel never fights unless it is about Cole but other than that I mostly let her decide. I just kept arguing to a minimum.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why can't you just let the past go? Is it because of her that you can't leave that place behind."
"Hazel just shut up!"
"No, I won't. Collin, she is not here. She is dead. But I'm here please..."
"Shut the fuck up Hazel." I raised my hand before her but stopped when I saw the fear in her eyes. "This is not about her or my past and there us no us." Lowering my hand and my voice I sighed watching her relax a bit.
"After his birthday then please." His seventh year old birthday which is next week. "Then we can go home."
"Fine." It is only one more week.
"Yay." She beamed. "I have a surprise for you and perhaps it might change your mind into going back home." She muttered.
"What was that?" Clearly I heard it. She is planning something from what I could tell.
"Nothing." She turned away from me, "So people are already sending their RSVP down at the marine center." She spoke calmly as if we weren't just in a heated argument minutes ago.
Shock now plastered on my face. I thought she hated anything to do with sea life.
"Oh don't look so shock honey. I love Cole and I know he loves the ocean life so I thought going to the aquarium for his birthday will make up for it." As I said before Hazel is a good mother. And in all honesty I didn't want to separate her and Cole.
Leaving at that I retreated to my own bedroom that was next to Cole's. Hazel was on the opposite side. We may be not together but from time to time she sleep over my house just because in her defense it is late and do not wish to go home this time of night.
