Collin
"Dad I'm ready to go." Watching Cole walk down the stairs in his swimming trunks made me angry for some odd reasons.
"And where are you going son?" I asked taking a sip of my coffee while my gazed were now fixed on Kara who flipped her hair while eating her fruit oat meal at breakfast.
"The beach." Cole exclaimed followed by Erin who also screamed excitedly.
"It's been a while since we all went swimming."
Abruptly standing up, I marched towards Erin and forcefully pulled her into a vacant room. "What the hell is the wrong with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Don't play stupid. The beach?"
"And why not? As I recall you love swimming and I thought Kara would love to dip her new found legs in the water."
Oh fuck no. "Kara will not be going anywhere near the waters."
"Collin, you and I both know she belongs in the sea."
"Are you trying to get rid of her, I thought you like her."
"What are you talking about? Of course I like her. And who says I want to get rid of her. It's family day. Everyone is going, mom, uncle, Riley..."
"That's not the point." How dare she make plans without informing me and the beach no less. "Why didn't you tell me before hand?"
"If I have told you, you would have avoided the day and disappear on me along with Kara. Besides surprises are fun." She paused, "Don't tell me you are scared..."
"It's not, it's just..." it is not that I am scared of her going in the waters its just what if her legs disappears and never...fuck. I ran my hands over my face. "We are not going to the beach." I yelled.
"Look little bro, you haven't swam since Kara left us years ago and now here is your chance. And I am sure Kara would be happy to go as well." Erin shook her head.
"You don't understand..."
"What don't I understand, tell me. Are you scared of the waters too is that it. Or are you..."
"What if she leaves?"
"Don't you see Collin, if she wanted to leave she would have..."
"That's not it." I raised my voice. "You know what she was, hell I know what she was and truth be told it is impossible for her to be walking on two legs, what if..." I heaved not able to form the right words.
"I see. Look Collin if this was temporary wouldn't she have reformed back to what she once was. Besides don't you think it would be best to find out now if she would revert back. And if she does revert back, I hate to say it but that is where she belongs." A part of me knows she is right. But the other half refuse to believe. These passing months have been great and I didn't want her to go anywhere.
It almost feels like a dream. "Fine." I sighed. "But if she turns back I will hate you." I scoffed turning my back on my sister. She knows I can never hate her but doesn't mean I will forgive her if I loose Kara again.
"So dad are we going to the beach?"
"You know it son. Now get your clothes ready while I get mine."
"And while you guys are doing that Kara and I will get ready as well." Erin took Kara by the hand and led her away from me. If only she would have filled me in on the beach today I would have taken Kara far away from here.
