{Book 1}
》chapter 1《
The gates to the Red Keep slowly opened as we stopped outside. It was a nice day; the sun was shining and not a cloud for as far as I could see. The trip here had been 1 week long and it had rained almost the whole time. Other than the weather, the trip was calm and nothing unexpected happened. I believe that it was the rain that scared any threats rather than the Lannister guards that escorted me.
I was travelling from Long Wood where I had lived for 2 years with my late husband. I was never really in love with him, but we had just started to get a form of connection. He died just a few weeks before I left Long Woods. It was actually at a feast that he arranged as fast as he found out that I was expecting our first child after 2 years of trying without success, that he died.
He had apparently been drunk and fell from the highest tower of the castle. His brother soon sent me off because I didn't have a son to become head of the house and didn't want to find out what gender the child in my belly was.
As soon as my father found out that I'd be coming home to him, he sent his own guards to guide me home for he was just as suspicious about my late husband's brother as I was.
My siblings lived in Kings Landing because my sister was the queen, my brother a King's Guard and my other brother liked the brothels. Since Casterly Rock was further away from Long Woods, father wished that I stayed awhile in Kings Landing before going home to Casterly Rock for a while.
My oldest brother Jaime greeted outside the castle with open arms. "My dear little sister!"
I smiled and embraced him. "what a lovely greeting committee," I joked, referring to the empty courtyard except for a few guards here and there.
"Am I not enough for you?" he asked, "The royal family is waiting in the throne room,"
Before entering the castle, I looked up at the tower wondering if you'd die if you fell from the highest window. Probably since the tower my husband fell from was far from as high.
My sister was sitting on the stairs to the throne with her son Tommen on her lap. She was talking quietly to him. She might not have been the nicest person but she was a good mother. Her daughter Marcella was sitting next to her with a doll and the oldest boy, Joffrey, were running around with a wooden sword. The King was beaming with his absence.
When my sister saw me, she calmly removed Tommen from her lap and made her way over the hall. She draped her arms tightly around me. "Do you understand how worried I was?" She whispered.
I laughed quietly but when I saw her serious face I stopped. "Why?"
"As soon as we heard that Lord Harringstone died we knew that his pathetic brother would want to take his place." She said. "And since you're pregnant, it turned the situation even worse."
"Well, everything is alright now."
She didn't look too sure. "We'll talk about that later." She smiled. "How far gone are you?"
She put a hand on my stomach, and I put my own on top of hers. "Almost three moons, I believe,"
Cersei soon stepped away and Marcella jumped at me. "My love!" I said as I embraced her.
I take her face between in my hands and examined at her. "How are you even prettier than last time I saw you?"
She giggled. Tommen soon joined us and excitedly told me about his new cat.
"Joffrey come here, dear," Cersei said and Joffrey, who was hitting his toy sword at his sworn shield's armoured chest. Sandor Clegane looked unbothered but slightly annoyed as the boy hit him weakly.
The huffed but came over anyway. I ruffled his hair. Just as he was about to raise the wooden sword and do something stupid when Clegane put his foot in the way.
"Milady," he grunted.
"Ser Clegane,"
"I'm no Ser," he said.
"still?" I asked, "I thought someone would have knighted you by now."
Before he could say anything back, I turned to my siblings and asked. "Where's Tyrion?" referring to my other brother.
"You know where he is," Cersei sneered.
Jaime sighed. "You'll probably see him in the morning."
"Right."
A few months later something unexpected happened. Lord Arryn, Hand of the King, died suddenly in sickness. I didn't know him too well, but he was a good man, from what I've heard.
King Robert was going to the north to get himself a new hand. Eddard Stark, Warden of the North, was hoped to take the spot. Therefore the royal family was going north with a large company, and then I would finally go to Casterly Rock to my father.
I sat down in the dining hall that morning my sister sat down beside me. "we'll be going north in the morrow." She said. "Father wishes that you come along."
I choked on my juice, "He wished what now?"
"That you join us north."
"I'm pregnant."
She rolled her eyes. "I'm aware, but we'll have more than a hundred guards with us. It will be safe."
I thought for a second. It would be an experience going north, I've never been there, and having a child born in the North wouldn't be so bad either. The toughest people are born in the North, I've heard. I looked down on my belly. It was quite swollen now, but it was still two or three months left
"Well, I'm guessing that I don't have much of a choice if father wished it."
She laughed quietly, trying to hide the sound behind her cup.
