HOMEWARD

Long journey back home
Golden eyes reflecting sun
Bob Dylan is singing.

LOUD MORNING

Early morning cries
Baby drags me out of bed
She calms in my arms.

FIREFLIES

Fireflies alight
She laughs in the summer air
Glowing jars at night

SHE AND I ON THE BEACH

  Sun beats down on us
We walk on the dying waves
Seashells cut our feet

DIRECTION-GIVER

I'm already lost
headlights in high beam tonight
texts me as she drives

NICOLE

Hand on her belly
Pretty eyes, forever sad
Baby due in May.

WOODS

Fire's going out.
Sleepbag zipper locks us in
An owl mourns, somewhere.

AFTERMATH OF THE DREAMFIRE

Long time since breath left
Cleaning slowly calcined skin
Cradle him and weep.

THOUGHTS AS SHE WALKS BEFORE ME

Following you down,
Red lace crawling 'round your neck,
Twigs crack 'neath our feet.

A WINTER MEMORY

Scraped my knee on ice.
Bandaged up, then back outside
Scraped the other knee.

TOM

Crawling in his bed,
Sleepy hands and old cologne
He snores in my ear.
