We left at around six o’ clock so that we’ll have plenty of rest time when we got there. I feel sorry for leaving my grandma again with just a “see you later” to say to her but it’s for her own good and now that I knew she’s still here, I’m not going to leave her alone again, not anymore.
We immediately got on the bus that will take us to Shinjuku Lake when we got to town. We were wearing our disguises this time, taking extra careful not to be recognized by anyone. Our identity had been more and more critical since this wild goose chase started.
For some reason, all of us were eerily quiet during the bus ride, like we can all feel something coming, something dangerous but we have no idea what it could be just yet.
I was thinking of ways to somehow get news of the movements of our enemy. I could ask Kyo but I’m scared that the enemies have already tracked our phones and we’ll be in trouble again the split second I open it. I need to use a landline immediately!
I was in deep thought about what our next move will be until something caught my attention. There’s someone fighting, yelling at one another. I looked to where the noise was coming from and I saw Ryota and Matsuru; Ryota was yelling at Matsuru and Matsuru looked like he’s looking away from Ryota as if embarrassed to face him.
“Keep it down back there,” an old guy was yelling at the both of them obviously annoyed of the ruckus they’re making. I immediately jumped out of my seat before they even stir more uproar, placing myself in between them. “What’s going on?” I asked confusingly.
“This guy, it seemed like he lost most of our money and didn’t even bother to tell us about it,” Ryota said annoyingly as he pointed at Matsuru.
“I didn’t lose it. When we were chased by those ninjas from our house I was only able to take what my hand could grip and I left the rest there. I was on a panic, you would have done the same as me,” Matsuru said defensively. He’s surprisingly calm even though he’s in this situation.
‘No, I would have made sure I took all of the essentials. We don’t know for how long we will be in this situation; we’re not sure for how many days we’ll run for our lives. What will we do if we run out of money? What about food? What about a decent place to stay?” Ryota answered sounding a little bit hysterical now.
“Ryota-kun, please calm down,” Haruka said desperately trying to ease things up.
“You kids back there quiet! And sit down will you?” The bus driver was the one who pleaded now so we all sat down on the same spot so that we can still continue the conversation without disturbing anyone.
“We’ll end up starve in a few days you know,” Ryota pointed out when we all got settled down.
“Ryota please, just shush right now!” I said angrily. He looked at me shockingly but I don’t really care right now if he’s unhappy with me. I’m really not pleased of him either; making Matsuru feel so guilty and all. Matsuru had a decent reason why he left our other money; he was running for his life for Christ’s sake. “So, how much do we have left right now?” I asked calmly.
“Around ¥10,000,” Matsuru answered.
“Well okay. We’re staying in our family’s resort starting today anyways. Food and shelter will be free and if we happen to be in need of more money, don’t worry, I’ll take care of that. I told you, we can trust everyone on that resort. Everything will be fine,” I said confidently and with that, the burden they’d been feeling earlier seemed to have lifted a little bit.
“As expected of Fiory to solve this problem in ease,” Shuichi said as he lay back to his seat once more. “Fiory you’re the best!” He added as he closed his eyes to sleep. I giggled at him but my giggling died immediately when I noticed Haruka eyeing Shuichi as if he just said something she had been scared of. From her reaction it looks like she’s somehow hurt.
Somehow I feel sorry for her. It’s clear that she loves Shuichi very much but for some reason, Shuichi doesn’t give her much attention. I’ve got to do something about this.
…
My heart dropped when we finally arrived at our family resort. For some reason, it looked abandoned. But how could that be? My mom always comes here alone when she needs time to relax herself. She never said anything about this place closing down. But the lights were out, it was dissonantly quiet, and no single human form is in sight.
“Where is everybody?” I asked myself as I took a step ahead and went towards the door anyways. Abandoned or not, it still seems like a pretty good hide out and anyways, we can’t waste more money to travel anymore.
“Spo—spooky,” Haruka said shaking as she hugged Shuichi’s left arm.
“Stop that!” Shuichi said annoyingly as he forced Haruka’s hand to let go of his.
I opened the sliding door immediately expecting that it was locked but shockingly, it slid open easily and all the lights in the house immediately lit like something triggered it to.
“Ah, it’s you little miss,” someone said after awhile which made Haruka yell and the others stiffen. I know that voice too well to get scared though.
I looked for the source of the voice and saw Mr. Ashiya, the caretaker standing there at the top of the stairs.
“How do you do Mr. Ashiya?” I asked him politely with a huge smile on my face.
